EVSOnline... RUSH... anyone, what would I need to record a comedy show?

Hi, I need to get over to EVSOnline either today or early tomorrow and either buy or rent a mic.

It needs to be wireless so I can be roaming around in the audience of a small comedy club. And at the Ice House in Pasadena. I've seen many online comedian's pages and when they feature clips the sound is really bad. They don't use any special microphones. They just use the one built into the cam.

What would I need to buy or rent so the comedian can be up on stage and can roam the audience getting different angles and what not. I have 2 cameras, but I'll need to only record the sound into one and use the other cam for cut-aways.

Will a wireless mic interfere with her hand held? Will I be able to just tap into the hand held?

Rush... anyone?

The video will primarily be used for online promotions. Just to show a few clips of the comedy shows, but if the sound comes out well, and if I can film it well then we may turn it into a DVD that can be purchased from the website.

Thanks.

So then 26 of you read this and no one in the audio forum knows what mic I should get?
The show was last night by the way. LOL

Comedians perform every night so I got time... can anyone guide me? Or do I have to drive all the way from north hollywood to burbank and just go talk to Rush face to face? :)

I will take a swing at it for you.

Since you said the comedian has a handheld, I think you got the mic thing covered. Just talk to the house about patching into their PA system and there you go. Most board outs are line level so set DVX for line and bring your own XLR cables. Check out the set-up before hand so you have everything you need (some cables runs get pretty long) and you should be styling unless I misunderstood your situation.

Good luck.

"All the way" from North Hollywood to Burbank? What is that, about 15 minutes on a bad day? It's right next door! In fact, if you look over your shoulder, Rush is probably waxing his back in your bathroom right now...

I'd gladly drive an hour to speak with someone like Rush in person and get all questions and concerns taken care of in one shot. Much better than posting and waiting for replies (as you've seen), then re posting to clarify and waiting, etc... Although this is a good question and I was anxious to hear the answer. I say if it's available to you, have at it.

thanks wabbit.
I don't have a DVX though. I just got an XL1s and a VX2000. I'll have to check about the cables since me and another guy will be all over the place shooting from different angles.

Maybe I'll mention this to Rush and see if I can plug into the PA systme and use some wireless setup.

And tuface... It's more like 10 minutes if I hop on the 170 to the 134. But that would mean leaving the house... I dunno. Maybe if I get desperate, I can go. Rush is a cool guy, and Tommy is one funny mutha.

Actually.. I think I will go over there. Thanks again. :)

With those cameras you will need a 15db attenuator to bring in -10db line level.

If you are using the house PA you shouldn't need a wireless on the comedian. You could use wireless to go in camera but that is 10lbs of headaches to solve a 2lbs inconvenience (IMHO).

You also might want to record some audience laughter on a 2nd track to mix with the comedians dialog.

Call my rental department at 323.876.7525. They'll help you out. They should have some handheld wireless systems available.
