EVS or B&H?

Speaking strictly on price only (as there are many more factors to consider of course), if you are in California, EVS will charge you sales tax. This brings EVS and B&H a little closer together on price for those of us in Cali.

If you are looking at price only then shipping cost is also a determinant. For me, EVS has lost several sales due to the large difference in shipping cost, which I'm guessing is a cost they just pass along to the consumer.

EVS RULES.

Their level of attention to detail and 100% Old School Customer Service is worth any assumed charges.

Rush is the man.

Prices are about the same at both stores, so there's no point in comparing them on price.

B&H has an awesome online ordering system that is linked to their inventory. So, if it's on the website and says, "in stock" you can be certain they have it. Even at 3AM on a Saturday. Very handy.

EVS reps knows their customers by name -- which is cool. EVS is located in Burbank near all the major film equipment manufacturers / distributors so they can sometimes get "special order" items to their customers faster than B&H.

I also believe EVS is better equipped to support DVXusers because of their vast knowledge of accessories suitable for people like us. B&H you really have to know what you're looking for. They aren't much help in finding things without a part number.

EVS vs BH

EVS vs BH

EVS has pretty good prices but they have what is sadly lacking in the world of retail these days.
Customer service,
I'll gladly pay a little more for something to get primo customer service. Unfortunately this is one thing that's been absent for an awfull long time now but when I ordered my DVX from EVS I suddenly found it again, quite by surprise. As long as they continue this practice I won't waste my time anywhere else.

Ditto to all to positive comments about EVS. We recently purchased a DVX100B from them and when it came to a tripod, we got about a 30 minute education on tripods from Tommy Mack. We settled on a tripod that was around $600.

EVS has earned their reputation.

I buy a lot of my equip from BH, I just like there website better and they ship faster than any company I've bought from online, but anytime I'm in L.A. I make it a point to stop by EVS and pick up some gear. There customer service is #1!

Thanks!

Thanks!

Thanks for all your comments on the vendors, this helps a lot! I'm going to call EVS within the next two weeks.

RAMZI (at EVS)rocks! He patiently answered all my questions and is also very knowledgable on all the products. I can always call him up and ask about anything I am thinking of purchasing. He'll also include the DVX USER discount. I bought my cam from him.

I made an earlier post this week as I just picked up most of a large order for my new startup. I conacted Rush the week of his departure from EVS. Even though he was not with the company anymore he still helped me fish through my list and make the best choices. When I was ready to field some quotes. Tommy was patient during a process in which took close to 2 months. He could have dropped the ball at anytime as another company did that I was matching quotes with them also.

I have been in to EVS 3 times in 3 weeks. They never offer an opportunity for me to be disappointed. Also, if you're in CA you should redeem the 5% CA sales tax discount. Your total tax will be 3%. This also applies to MacMall.

Fact is they're in the middle of Burbank. They don't have to care about the little guy but they do.

I gotta jump on the band wagon and put my kiss mark on EVS's butt. Because... it's all true. All these positive responses, I read all not ONE negative, is there for a reason. CUSTOMER SERVICE is key. That's what makes people especially in video and film take notice and most importantly, take BUSINESS.

I ordered Tuesday my accessories off EVS, by Thursday morning it arrived. I chose the cheapest option Fedex X2. Heh they do deliver literally, my first dealing with EVS suprised how efficient they were. I know Rush doesn't work there anymore but their staff is just as helpful and take time.

HAvent ordered B&H other than online only, nor want to now. B&H is good for online orders their inventory is connected to site. One good thing, but, knowing EVS's rep and service, I want to GIVE them business, even if it's a few cents more which if you call them up say dvxuser get a great great discount, even tho I feel guilty because they deserve the money.

Anyways enough kissing? =)

I have used both and have to say I prefer the B&H website. I order on the Friday and its with me in the UK on the Tuesday. You just can't get better than that. Postage is clearly stated before I pay. I phoned up EVS and the gy on the phone was very helpful, but I bought some filters without knowing the postage. Risky as I could have got stung. It took just over a week to get to me, so slower than B&H. Can't complain though as I still call that good service.

B&H have never let me down in 50 transactions. Always quick, everything I have ordered which states is "in stock" has been, and the price has been fine by me.

I like EVS but sometimes they don't have what I'm looking for. B&H does, but I have to wait forever to get the package... and last package I got I had to send back because the product was damaged

I have a PayPal account which has a nice little nest of money. I am unable to
use paypal with EVS, I think they only take credit cards.
Stuff I sell on Ebay I then turn around and buy stuff on B&H. Credit card
purchases I go with EVS.

I'd use EVS.... Folks at B&H behave like you're bothering them.

You are bothering them.... you have the audacity of not giving them your money fast enough.

Im just pissed tehy sold me a Defective Arri 300.

They exchanged it, but it was like having to convince the guy the light was defective was annoying. Just take it back and give me a new one dammit.

I wish there was an alternative in NY, thatwasnt Addorama ( B&H, rival but same Poo Different toilet)
