Just got a packaged set up by Tommy- real nice people there, and not swindlers like most companies. Tommy set me up with a sweet package that fit my budget in about 10 minutes. I'll be getting my stuff this week, cant wait!
Tell me about it.. I just bought the G2 Mic kit from them on Thursday at about 3:00. It was at my door via Fedex Friday morning at 9:00 am. And I am in Canada!!!
You just cant beat the price and service they offer, which is why they are so adored by this site. They are big enough to have/get almost anything at great prices, but small enough that they keep an eye out for us and understand the indy community. Dont forget to ask for your DVXuser Member discount when you order
yup! yup! just purchased the matteblox from ramzi over there! very cool guy! hey rush, did you guys take personality and lie detector tests before getting hired? ;D
Rush is on " holidays " for a month.. Truthfully, he's a super hero named ScamBoy that flys around and beats down little scam shops in NY, and is on his yearly cleanup mission.
Had the great op of going to EVS's and seeing their facility and meeting Rush. I have been very pleased with all things from them. They are top drawer...
My street language is not current, so when I saw that EVS is the "****" I got all panicky, wondering who the heck could be badmouthing EVS? Wasn't aware of this new usage for the word "****". But OK, I have to agree with everyone. DVX is the **** and so is this forum.
EVS is right down the street from me, so it's very convenient to be able to go down there and look at their stuff first hand. I've gotten my shock mount and boom from them, as well as my on-camera monitor.
The only problem? The info they've given me on some stuff has been completely incorrect. Definitely do your homework before going in there or ordering online. But they have good prices and reasonably good service.

Jarred,
Curious where you mount your wireless receiver? Hows it working? I'm looking for a wireless kit any advice would be appreciated.
Billy
Most wireless receivers include a belt clip, so you'd use a short XLR cable to get to the camera (for handheld). If you want to mount it directly to the camera, you can get something like the Bracket1.

Can you share with us the detailed mis-information they provided you with?
It comes with a belt clip and a Hotshoe mount.. this thing is almost half the size of the old evolutions so its really slick, and small enough not to screw things up. The good thing is that the hotshoe mount just slides into the belt clip so you can go from hotshoe to body or handlestrap etc. in a Jiffy.
I am very impressed with it BTW.. the audio is clean and the autoscan feature is pretty nice.
Thanks Jarred, I was pretty excited when I saw it come out, the size is a plus. Do you ever shoot with a combination of wireless lav and shot gun? I think I'm gonna go with the G2. I already have a ME66. I'm confused with one thing and we are gonna get way off for this thread sorry, anyway...
I'm gonna shoot a doc, very unscripted, in an uncontroled environment where I would like to wire the host(we'll call him) with a wireless lav but I still need to pick up other people who are not directedly involved, so I was going to use a shot gun, on camera. Ideally I would just have the host hold a mic, but then his role changes to interviewer and thats not what we are going for. The less he looks like he is mic'd, the better. Any suggestions?
Oh yeah, Thanks Barry I'm gonna check out that bracket...
The first time I used the new G2 I used it just like that, with a shotgun mic, not on camera but same difference. It worked great, I found it easiest to set the gain on the G2 to match the shotgun as close as possible to keep monitoring a little easier. There are 2 channels, and both mics are mono so might as well use the other channel for something.
That said, usually with a shotgun I set it to both channels and keep one channel a little lower to have a safety channel for peaks, however I tried that with the G2 and the peaks just didnt work out that well, I assume since the reciever regulates that instead of the camera its something that is hard to avoid.
Great advice, thanks. You know I've been using a shot gun for over a year and never thought of turning one channel down to use in case of clipping. I always set them equal. Thanks you just opened my eyes..
I had the privilege to meet Rush while he was in Normandy for the D-Day celebrations. He's a great guy and we had a fun time together. Plus, as we all know already, he's very knowledgeable, being not just a well-informed sales person, but an experienced filmmaker himself : he doesn't just push boxes, he knows and uses what's inside them... I've seen him at it. ;D
