URGENT! URGENT! URGENT! URGENT!

Panasonic main warehouse in Japan has accidentally sent a container of DVX's to the US that should have been sent to Canada/Puerto Rico.:undecided Panasonic added the Magic Bullet and DVD Handbook to them and sent them out to dealers in the US accidentally. I assume this is due to extremely high demand for that camera.

I wanted to immediately post that this has happened, and that Jan Crittenden as well as Cathy and all the Panny reps are currently scrambling their fighters to figure out how this has happened, and how to amend the situation. We at EVS have also received a pallet of these cameras, and have suspended shipping the cameras until Panny tells us what to do. We have shipped about 8 cameras already to our customers, and they will be told that the serial number is non-US. Please email me at rush@evsonline.com if you accidentally received one of those cameras. Jan and Cathy will notify me what to do, and then I will notify you in turn, whether we will have the cameras shipped back, or if this is a simple paperwork issue.

All serial numbers starting with "F5TD-" seem to be the radioactive variety....

:undecided

Thanks for the news flash Rush.

Another testament to you and EVS and how you do business. (Notifying the masses of this urgent matter)

Ill stick it up.

So, all things being equal, does that mean we should go ahead and buy from a Brooklyn dealer to get the cheapest gray market DVX100? j/k :)

woah that sucks...someone at Panasonic is definitly gonna get their ass yelled at...damn...sucks for the shipping manager...

Well I just got done talking to a certain Brooklyn dealer, after the advice from Terry from above, and they said they received that flat of US DVX100a's! They had a great "Summer Sale," and that I couldn't steal them for cheaper. I bought 4 of them!

:undecided

mine is D5TD, PHEW!
good job putting that out there so quick rush.
t

Mine's a D5TD too. Glad I bought when I did. I was worried there for a sec. Wasn't sure how that would effect the rebate.

im hoping it goes by the serial rather than the card...
i have both the usa/puerto rico AND the canada card...
the other post, it references both cards...
the thing is, the usa is combined with the puerto rico on the same card...
and the shipment was to go to puerto rico...
all a bit confusing.

Good to know Rush is on the job! I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't go hunt down the source of the problem and take care of him. The Sopranos way.

But the real question here is, ...HOW DO YOU SPELL GREY? I've seen it with an "e" and I've seen it with an "a". And is every color/colour modular like that? Red could be "rad". Yellow could be "yallow". Throw me a freakin bone here! :)

Gee I bought mine two months ago. Maybe I can send it back and then buy one so I can get the battery and the tapes.

lol

It only has about 30 minutes on it. Been writing and rewriting, and rewriting and rewriting the script.

In about a week is when I really start using it or my friend who'll dp the film oops video.

I got a question........i duno if this has been answered before..i tried searching..nothing came up..

Can someone explain to me GRAY market cameras to the regular type?..i kinda have a general idea of them...they not sold directly from Panasonic and warrenties and stuff..but what else is there to know about them? are they like totally different cameras?

blckhawk: As far as I know they are the same cameras, but the warranties are not valid unless sold in that country. So it is neccessary to either swap them or make sure the rebate center adds that serial to their database.

PK: I got the twin .45's loaded. Someone's gonna pay... BIG!

ttt: It seems the F5TD is the afflicted variety, but the D5TD remains to be diagnosed.

Ok gettin' late, gonna crash for the night. I will post something early tomorrow as soon as I learn more.

May be. May be a Japanese version, may have different features, may be just about anything. By definition, a gray market version is one that was not destined for the market where it's bought in (i.e., for a US buyer, a gray market camera would be one that was never intended to end up in the US, it was obviously intended for some other country). As such, it may be somehow different -- may have different languages in the menus, etc.

If it's coming from Canada, it's probably functionally identical to the US version. If it's coming from somewhere else, then who knows?

The only things you can be sure of about a gray market camera are these:
1) it's not a US unit
2) there is no warranty through the US manufacturer's rep
3) it will not be eligible for any promotions, rebates, or bonuses that the US office is offering.

rush, i emailed you the serial...
thanks!

Ok, stand down everyone. Jan and EVS are sorting this out and it sounds like it's just a matter of Jan putting the serial numbers in question into their database. So no one's got anything to worry about and Jan would probably appreciate it if you didn't deluge her with emails while she's running around at DV Expo East. :) If you recently bought your DVX from EVS, you can drop Rush a note if you have questions. Thanks.
