i am new to DSLR video stuff, and video stuff in general.

i recently purchased premiere pro (jump in with both feet, I know), and am trying to edit footage from my 7D. when i open it in finder (or quicklook, I guess) or in iMovie, it plays fine. however, if i open it up in premiere it is uber jerky.

details of camera footage: 1080p24 (I have not converted to anything intermediate.)

details of computer: newest iteration of iMac, 3.06 GHz, 8 gb ram, 1 TB HD, 256 MB video card.

should i convert it to some intermediate format for editing purposes?

best wishes,
T

Yes, you should try editing with Proxies. Basically you are converting all your clips to lower res, doing your edits which will be much faster, and then swapping the low res clips back to the originals for final render.

I don't know what software to use for the mac to do this since I do it on PC. But if I find out, I'll let you know. GL
