Everything is good until DVD burning... uuuuuh?

Hey everyone,

I just finished a one minute animated film. Everything looks great until I burn it onto a DVD and play it on a standard player.

To give a little background on my process before burning... everything is rendered as uncompressed TIFF image sequences... so nothing is compressed at all before burning.

So, I'm definitely feeding the best files I can INTO my burn program (Sony DVD Architect)... but the result looks like garbage. The colors seem compressed and the saturation looks off... and the latitude seems to be compromised (i.e., darks are too dark and lights are too light). Also, the image looks slightly pixelated. Oh, and my sound levels seem to be very hot... like the program equalizes it or something.

Overall, it's like I'm taking an image that looks professional and pretty... and getting a really amateur result on DVD.

What gives? Poor quality encoding codecs in DVD Architect? I was under the impression that this was professional software... I mean, Sony Vegas is great... but is Architect shotty?

i just did my first dvd project in sony architect pro... it was a real nail-biter, to say the least, lol

sony takes a bass-ackwards approach to all of their software interfaces, and dvd architect is no different... afaik, you have to set the project properties to match whatever video bitrate you encoded the file at, or architect pro will re-encode it.

in the case of a bastard situation like an uncompressed tiff sequence, you need to get a handle on what bitrates and encoding parameters you are using... architect pro should(?) be using the mainconcept encoder for mpeg2, which is a quality piece of software.

since you didn't post the bitrate your dvd was encoded at, i'm guessing that you don't know, so you'll need to go back to square one and really dig into the software.
