Everything I hate about today's "music" in one music video

You Can't Do That On Television

dude! why did you post a REAL artist in this thread?? I was like, damn that reminds me of Alanis, before i realised. how did they do that, btw. get her old clips to look like she is singing this song. amazing. she is one of my all time faves.

I stumbled across this video a few days ago. I thought it was a brilliant concept.

Who knows, *maybe* the OP video girl will someday develop some real talent. Right? Right? :undecided

Saw this yesterday and I am pretty sure the Rebecca Black song is a hoax specifically designed to be bad and garner attention, so that the originators can grab some easy advertiser money etc after they release another.

Evidence: http://www.collegehumor.com/video:1949258 <~ Bob Dylan sings Rebecca Black's Friday

Wow, this whole thread has given me a huge-ass headache...

Where's that thread where we talk about good music? :undecided

I realize I'm out of the "current" music scene but I'm at a loss for words at how bad that is.
Obviously just a semi-old man's opinion.
Our parents hated our music too!.
I'd be curious to hear a young teenagers opinion.

Our parents hated our music? :)

I used to joke with my 22yo nephew about how much cooler bands like The Who, 'Stones, AeroSmith, Boston, etc. were then anything of "today"... and that was almost 10 years ago (when he thought he was cool at 13)... Dude... all these "bands" of the last 10 years (save a few) will be 100% forgotten in less then 10 more years.

As far as "quality" (or ORIGINAL) music is concerned... who cares what today's teens think. I'm 39 and I barely grew up in the best days of modern music... you guys a little older then me may have grown up through history's best (rock-pop) musical era. 99% of today's music is vapid... in the truest sense... which is probably why movies, commercials, etc. are tapping the stuff from our ge-ge-gah-generation.

In the meantime, this goes viral, and the nastiness just piles worse and worse up on some poor 14 year-old girl who was just singing a song. At least she wasn't vulgar or bitchy.

It's usually a good idea to remember that there are real human beings behind these things.

EDIT: I was referring to comments made around the web, not here.

But I must defend today's music. This nonsense is just teen pop music. Today there are also bands such as TV on the Radio, Arcade Fire, and Grizzly Bear, just to name a few. I just wanted to point that out. I'll get off your lawn now.

Also, what's with the random interlude with the grown man? (yes, I actually made it through the whole thing).

True, it's not really fair to blame the young girl. I'm pretty sure if my 7 year old made the music video of her dreams it would probably look something like this.

I just meant in terms of the mainstream. Put another way, you bring up Debbie Gibson and Will Smith, but they're the Casablancas and Mr. Smith Goes to Washingtons of their genres/eras. Most movies -- the solid mainstream -- were crap and aren't remembered.

Like I said, this song reminded me a lot of Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam, whom almost no one remembers but were nonetheless quite representative of the mainstream they were in. Along with, say, Swing Out Sister, Martika, etc., etc. This is not worse than that.

Or, go ahead a couple of years and compare to 4 Non Blondes or Crystal Waters (and they don't even have the excuse of being teeny-boppers with songs meant to appeal to junior high kids).

Or, while we're at it, New Kids on the Block.

Head To Toe -- are you kidding? That song was great! :)

Along with, say, Swing Out Sister
Breakout -- that was fun too.

Toy Soldiers.

No, I'm not looking any of those up, they were memorable enough that I remember them all quite well.

Dude... NKOTB was what it was, sure, and I was never a fan, but The Right Stuff was fun, and eminently more listenable than this... plus, it gave us Donnie Wahlberg as the emaciated freak in The Sixth Sense.

Oh, Barry W. Green. Look, I'm with you all the way on Weird Al and I loves me some Popmusik, but . . . dude. :)

Toy Soldiers.

It was horrible.

I think you're being overly generous to past eras. I haven't even delved into Disco Star Wars/Battlestar Galactica yet. Or, you know, disco.

Remember, it was 35 years ago when the Ramones recored "Do You Remember Rock 'n Roll Radio?" saying more or less the same thing about the music of 1976 compared to the '50s and '60. I could go into any era and get loads of crap. :)
