Hi all (again, sigh).
24P reg. setting and camera is interlacing every single frame. What on earth is going on here?
I understand 24P regular and Cinetools and pulldown removal. Did all that correctly to 75% of footage both CT auto and manual 'A' frame selection. That footage looks terrific! No settings ever changed, still shooting 24P for 8 days.
Pics posted here are actual full res still image sequence export from Final Cut Pro at 100% resolution. Notice the nasty comb / sawtoothing / interlace artifacts in each frame. The motion here wasn't even that extreme.
I posted actual video clips here as well:

I'm not going to ever shoot with a DVX100b again, thankfully I own a real HPX170 now (so we can skip the 24PA advice, coulda woulda shoulda etc... this is THEN problem not now!) To anyone reading, the HPX rocks! It's a small camera dream. And also you CAN pulldown remove after editing. It's not ideal to do it after editing at 29.97 but CAN be done, I did it to 2.5 hours of footage and fixed it all... and it wasn't that bad to fix.
I need to figure out how to fix the all interlaced mess the camera handed me. This footage is part of a documentary I shot in 2006 and this bad footage is holding up it being finished. I watched the new 23.98 timeline export on a LCD projector. I made '24P' VOB files which compressor ignored my settings twice and made 29.97 crap export anyway, and copied the VOBs to a PlayStation3. These 'bad' sections in the film look horrible. Skippy, low res cartoon animated crap whereas the other 85% of properly pulldown removed 24P regular looks great. YES, I do know why: I am not removing pulldown of the bad sections because I can't. CineTools can't - it makes a huge mess at any manual setting - I've tried them all. There is NO 'A' frame in the bad sections of video. So I am now mashing in 29.97 horrible footage into a 23.98 pulldown removed footage timeline where the rest is correct and great and comparing the two. So yeah that explains the horrible skipping judder.
Most of these bad tape recorded sections occur in nighttime footage. And I'd be willing to wager that most if not all were shot with GAIN UP to +6dB. In some of these daylight shots I may have bumped the gain to UP, or forgot to turn it off the start of new day (hey cut me some slack it was a 8 day non stop race 24/7 and I was solo shooter and fried
)
ANYONE have any explanation? ANYONE ever seen this happen before? ANY ideas / suggestions how to best fix / moderate this significant problem? What I intend to do here is somehow alter this footage to work better in my 23.98 timeline, export a true 24P DVD for LCD / Plasma / HD / flatscreen Progressive viewing now. I don't care about CRT old tech viewing. RIP. I am really stuck here. Can't find anything like this anywhere else posted or described. Spent hours and hours researching, and re-digitized this footage 8x using original Sony DSR11 deck, my HVX camera, Sony VX2000 camera for playback through firewire to FCP 6.0.2 This is NOT a "why does my footage looks interlaced? I shot at 24P and edited it all at 29.97 timeline and it looks funny on a LCD why?" question. You know what I am saying here? Thank you for chiming in all!!
