Ever used Shake?

I am curious if any of you have used Shake before? If I can get around on FCP, LiveType, and Motion pretty easily, would I be able to figure out Shake or is it difficult to learn? Also, where would be the best (cheapest) place to buy it?

Thanks!

Pick up the PeachPit Book. It has a demo disk that can be activated for 30 days.
Read part of the book first since you'll only have the 30 days to work with it.

If you've done real compositing on other effects programs then it's not difficult but if you've only used motion and fcp it may take a little time just to figure out the general process and controls.
You have to read at least part of the book/manual before you can do much.

The main learning curve is wrapping your head around the node-based workflow. Most high-end compositors use this approach, so if you can get used to it, the learning curve between the different compositors isn't all that steep. Shake is my personal favorite. :)

I've found it quite a bit more difficult to learn than FCP though not impossible. Very different from say After Effects.

Yeah. Keep in mind that things like LiveType and Motion (and even After Effects) are designed for a broader market, so it's a little "easier" to get reasonable results. Shake is wholly intended for professional use only, so it's not nearly as "friendly." It's not immediately intuitive how to get things done, because it's not intended to be, but it's immensely powerful.
