Event video and any handheld tips?

So I shot some video unofficially at an event I went to last Sunday, and was wondering if anyone had any tips for shooting handheld with a DSLR?

This video has an annotation at the end to another video I uploaded for the same event -

You need more stable points of contact with the camera to minimize that "jitter." An LCD viewfinder like the LCDVF or Z-Finder would be a good first step - beyond that a shoulder rig of sorts would help as well. I don't mind the DSLR handheld look just as long as those micro-jitters don't rear their ugly heads.

A video monopod or shoulder-mount support will help to stabilize your camera and make the video appear smoother.

If you don't want to spend any money then you can always use the camera trap technique. Other than that, Cowboy Studio have a very cheap shoulder rig for under $30. What's your budget btw?

Don't what?

don't shoot handheld - you might like hand held but what about your audience? a $50 monopod would improve things out of sight - I spend too much time in post trying to overcome the shaky cam look to think it's anything but crap - some people might call it 'cinema verite' I thnk is cinema vomite

**that's a general opinion - I'm not talking about your work

grab a $20 tripod and just shoot locked off shots, if you want to pan - look up the rubber band trick.

I want to be drawn into whats happening on the screen, not what's happening behind it - everytime the camera shakes I'm reminded that there's a guy hand holding a camera and I'm distracted from what's actually happening - if it was a huge fight scene I might not even notice the shake, I'd be too involved in the content - but while I'm decidiing if I want watch this, if it's interesting or entertaining I don't need distraction - you'll lose me.

That's just my 2 bob's worth.
