estimating editing time

Hi everyone, I was wondering how to estimate the length of time it will take to edit a promo video for a potential client. I have roughly 4 and half hours of footage that I have to edit down to 5 minutes. I will also add graphics and music. I'm creating a proposal and would like to break down the editing time accurately.

thanks in advance,

Paul

It all depends on the footage and if you already have a script. Heck, if I've got a script, I can edit a 3-6 minute piece in 1-3 hours. However, if there are interviews that I've got to go through and figure out how I want to tell the story, easily 5x/6x times that. There's no easy answer for your question. So many things factor in to how long it will take.

well, it's a bunch of interviews of business owners lecturing in a high school. I estimated about 15 hours to edit the piece and another 4 hours to do the music and graphics. I have transcripts to work from, but I do have to figure out the story I'm telling.
