I live in Madrid. A couple of weeks back I went to two painting exhibitions: one about Dalí, one about hyperrealism. Images that are pleasing to the eye and thought-provoking trump "it looks just like real life" every time. Making art look like real life is pointless. If I wanted to see something that looks just like the real world, I would walk around the theater, not go inside it.
