Error with most photoshop files.

Help Please !

I suddenly have problems with most of my photoshop files. Files i open and work on and then save wont save "ERROR = The file you are trying to save was already open or is currently open" hence it wont save ! then i try to save as. It works. Only the saved as file (which maintains the corrections ive done to the image) does the exact same thing. Wont save again. Says its already open or accessed. A system restart and the same thing. Now the best part is i cant even delete the corrupted files. They just wont go. "The file is in use by another person or program". This is a stand alone workstation. What do i do ?

That's an odd problem. If you had two versions of Photoshop on your computer, I could see getting some kind of error like that. But I am thinking you don't.

Try this:

Go into your Windows directory, find the Prefetch folder, and delete the contents of that folder. It won't hurt your system, The prefetch folder basically gives Windows a "heads up" when loading a program, and uses some "defaults" to load the program faster and help speed up the loading, boot up process.

Why you can not save as just a Save, is beyond me. Does that happen with other programs as well? If it is only a Photoshop issue, if somehow the files are being corrupted/unsaveable in program, try uninstalling Photoshop and re-installing it. That may fix the issue.

Remember also that that newer versions hit the net when they want to upgrade and patch fix, and it's possible your version updated something that was corrupted. Unlikely, but possible.

Lastly, having to "Save As" is not a bad thing, and in fact, it is something you should adobt as part of your workflow. Having many saves of the same project can be very helpful. You may have something you liked three saves ago, and if you just hit "Save", you would lose that. Call it the poor man's version of non-destructive editing. There is nothing wrong with saving multiple versions of one project. Sometimes, it can save you ass.

You shouldn't have the problems you describe. I have never had that kind of thing, and it may be a operating system quirk that may be hitting PS and not hitting the rest.

Again, if all else fails, uninstall, re-install, and go from there.
