error message 3ivx.dll.

When I launch Premiere Pro 1.5, I receive an error message (this is a paraphrase)..."The system cannot locate 3ivx.dll...." If I click OK on the error message that pops up an additional 3 or 4 times, Premiere will finally open. Thing is, I am afraid that this missing component, whatever this codec is, will haunt me down the road after I've work so long on a project.

Anyone ever encouter this message? Did you figure out a fix? I found 3ivx.dll online and unzipped it to my computer but still cant figure out how to get Premiere to recognize it.

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated!

Rick,
As near as I can find, that DLL is a codec from a company called 3ivx (3ivx.com) for MPEG4 files. I would guess that you've installed a product or codec pack that has since been removed but the registry entry for the codec still remains. You could use regedit to search for the registry entry and delete it or use a freeware codec manager. I'd give you a pointer to the codec manager I use but I'm not on the PC I normally use. I think it's this one:

Just be very cautious about modifying anything in your registry. Bad things can happen. If you do find the 3ivx codec using DSFmgr, look at the filespec that it displays for the DLL and confirm that it's not there. This is one aspect of WinXP that I really despise.
