Error/Crash

I have done little projects 1-4 min. worth of footage in vegas before, and never had it have any problems.  Always very stable.  I now have 20 min, on the timeline, and it still runs just as smooth and fast,  but I have been getting this consistent error/crash, and it forces me out of the program.

I have no idea what it means.  I am running Vegas 5 Build 134.  Is there a better newer build/update I should get?  It just forces me out of the program.  Is there any settings like Ram etc.. that I should be upping in the settings or preferences menus?  I have 512mb ram 2 ghz processor.  Any help would be greatly appreciated. It happens when I move stuff around, or when I try to undo previous changes.

Re: Error/Crash

I don't know if it's a bug or what, but I have a timeline full of a bunch of clips. I have regions on all the clips...a total of 20 regions and 13 minutes of footage. Now when I do something, and then click "undo" the error instantly appears. But if I have all the same footage without the regions, and I do something and then click undo, there is no error. I don't get it.

Re: Error/Crash

Wow, I don't know. Your systems specs are not robust, but they're OK. Sounds like there's something going on behind the scenes somewhere. What version of Windows are you on?

Re: Error/Crash

Yeah, My system is alright. I'm probably going to upgrade in the near future. Nothing near what it could be, but it's more than what other people are using. Maybe I should try posting a short video on exactly what happens. I am on XP Pro. I will try to make a short video in the near future.

Re: Error/Crash

I posted the video of what happens. Right click and save as. or buffer it, whatever works. Because I was capturing at the same time, it slowed everything down, but you get the idea. The first part is the video without the regions, and how I can do whatever I want and undo and it doesn't have a problem. The second part is the video with the regions and how it causes it to crash as soon as I hit undo.

Re: Error/Crash

In your video I see lots of undo operations and lots of clicking around that did not make any sense. Why all the regions and not markers?
Check Vegas's memory usage under pref. in tools menu.
It looks like a memory problem to me.

Or Windows resources, which do not really have anything to do with the amount of RAM you have. Every Windows control (pretty much anything that shows up on the screen and is more than just a static label) gets a "handle". Handles are only a few bytes in size, but the Windows structure that holds references to them is fixed. When that structure gets full, Windows throws up.

If everything else is NOT closed on your machine while working, do so. See if it helps...
