Error 43 - Reference file not found

Very strange. I can't really understand what is happening. I use After Effects to create basic image sequences. My source is a folder full of images. I used to have them on my desktop but have since bought a RAID 0. Now sometimes when I try to import my files I get a After Effects error - reference file not found - 43. It seems it works when I put my files back on my desktop but not from the external hard drive.. which is strange because I feel it did work before.

It does work when the files are jpgs but not when they are RAW (CR2) or Tif files (the RAWs are 10MB and the TIFs are ~60MB each). After Effects won't even open a single RAW or TIF file but has no problem with a 1000 JPG files on the external. On my desktop it works fine every time.

I really want to have this work from my external. Is anyone familiar with this error? Searching online I read someone thought it may be due to the files being buried deep under folders, but it doesn't work when it's a top folder either.

My external is a RAID 0 dual bay enclosure from OWC. I have hardware RAID 0 2TB connected via eSATA to my 17" MBP (the MBP is the newest model running Snow Leopard)

i think i had this problem at one point but forgot what the solution was. try the adobe after effects forum if you dont get answers here. i cant remember if i found the solution there or creative cow's forum.

Thanks.. I was able to figure it out after reviewing the AE forums ahd this thread. Very frustrating in all my searched I didn't find something earlier.

My RAID drive I bought at OWC and it came with the name "OWC Mercury Elite-AL Pro". Now I remember thinking I wanted to simplify the name so I shortened it. At first I wasn't getting this After Effects error. Then suddenly I got it it over and over.

I remembered shortening the name of my drive but then realized it had it's old default name back. Not sure how it got resurrected. I changed it to RAID and now it imports fine.......

It may be the length or possibly the "-". Very frustrating a drive would ship with a name that would cause conflicts that would take weeks to understand..
