yea, this may be a really dumb question since i dont know much in the light department but, I have been looking for an on-camera light for some time now. Some of these on camera lights say they have xlr connections. does this mean they can be plugged into the xlr port of the dvx for power? or am I on crack and need to be slapped around a few times? :violent5:

Well what they are talking about is a 4 pin xlr connection vs a 3pin like is for audio on the DVX. So no you can not plug into the 3 pin to make it work. So it is an XLR plug just different

ah yes...I was just trying to find a way to have a decent on cam light without having a battery pack, oh well guess imma have to get the whole deal. thanks img.

XLR connectors can be used for DC power and they may not always be 4 pin... while I've been working on some DIY stuff this has continued to blow my mind because I'm looking at a 3 pin XLR which carries 24v (and a couple dozen watts) and thinking, "I wonder if anybody ever fried a mic by plugging it in here just because it fits?"

The fact that so many companies have XLRs carrying power is crazy... check out some of the battery systems and you'll see a fun way to cook your mics.

Regarding on-cam lighting... I recently got a VIDLED light and I couldn't be happier with it. The owner of the company is a member on these boards. www.vidled.com

To say I'm delighted with it would be an understatement. I was skeptical about the ability of a small, on-cam light to effectively flood an area in front of the light, but it sure does... you could use it for reporting or anything which requires an effective illumination out to 8 or so feet in total darkness. I expect to get a lot of use out of it... I wanted one of these just to have it for ocassional instances where I lost a shot because of failing light... but after playing with it for a while I think I'll be using it a lot more then I originally expected.

thanks for the infor Matt. Lol I probably would have been one of those people that would have fried my mic port...but then again I'm very wary with what I plug into my dvx so maybe not lol.

That Vidled looks pretty good, do they give discounts to dvxusers? Ha, I'm always looking for discounts...can you blame me?
hmmm wonder if it comes in black.
