Erasing video noise

I have used -what I think are correct - the right settings and still get a little noise on my DV footage. Is there another way around this, or do I need to go to HDV?

There will always be "a little" noise. But you must have a good eye to see it it properly exposed shots. You may try on- camera filters, such as a low contrast or a soft focus. These tend to direct light in ways that have a positive effect on grain.

Many people claim great results with an 85b filter. Here's one discussion, I know there's others (do a search):

Many filmmakers, like John Hudson, love the grainy look, which is often considered an integral element of the "film aesthetic."

NLE plug-ins will work, but with varying degrees of success. (I believe what they do is apply chroma blur, gaussian blur, etc., that may affect the sharpness of your footage.) Properly lit and exposed shots will be the ultimate key in eliminating noise, though.

if you use vegas, try http://www.vasst.com/training/Vegasplugs.htm Scroll down yo uwill see Noise reducer plug in for download for free. Its Great. i love it. it has a "power" adjustment, yo ucan make the effect stronger or weaker, if its a relatively still shot and you boost the power up all the way, it will completly elimante almost all video noise witout losing any resolution. if thers motion, a lower intensity, will still get rid of most noise, whithout creating Motin artifacts. I love it.
