Eragon

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0449010/

I was afraid it would be a "kids movie" but ended up really enjoying it. I never read the book so I couldn't compare it.

I have no idea how they got a PG rating. And given the actress who played Arya the princess, gosh I wish it would would have been a hard R...

Anyhow, now I'm actually looking forward to the sequals.

Oh, and Jeremy Irons is always a badass

I gotta say the books weren't all that great, but it was something to listen to on that family road trip. I've since sworn them off (the road trips). The trailer doesn't give me high hopes for the film either.

Pretty much all the reviews I've seen between AICN and rotten tomatoes have said its pretty bad. I didn't really like the look of the trailer either.

Could be wrong though.

yeah but they said it bites too much from both.

both have the same begings pretty much.

Empire trying to take hold of whats left of good so a 15 year old is put in charge after his uncle is murder and must quest towards the empire and become the jedi (dragon rider)

my favorite review i saw said this.

"The book is written by a 19 year old and screen play seems to be written by a 12 year old."

I guess I'm let down because of its lack of originality.

Its annoying when people rip on a movie just because it's similar to another. Is Eragon like Star Wars? Oh yeah. But it's a story line i love. Imagine if I come home and my wife has fresh chocolate chips cookies coming out of the oven and I respond "booorrring. Derivative. These are exactly like my mom's cookies that I had a thousand times." No! It's a formula that works and is fun to consume.

There is nothing new under the sun. Ergagon is made up of ingredients that we've all seen, but it's put together in a good way. Key differences from Star Wars is the relationship with his dragon, a potential love interest (Luke had only his sister), and the son of the bad guy who is an ally.

I was never impressed with the book. It reminded me far too much of the usual Fantasy suspects all mixed together. I'm not talking about basic, basic plot here but large segments.

I'm a Tolkien fan myself so maybe I'm a bit biased but I've been unimpressed. Still, I plan to see the movie sometime. If only on account of Shawneous' comments on the girl!

The movie is nowwhere near as interesting as the book. I like the book even if it is a "teen" book and a Star Wars ripoff its a good story. I hate to see it cut to pieces. Tolkien would have liked LOTRs (I think) I don't think the same can be said for this one. My teenage son has been letting me have it since we got out of the theatre Saturday. He was very disappointed with the version on screen.

There is nothing new under the sun.

I tend to try and think the opposite of that.

I still give you benefit of the doubt on the movie...cause I havn't seen it yet...but just because its hard to make something original doenst mean its impossible...and not something to strive for.

Oh please. Star Wars was nothing new when it came out. The STORY itself is the same old Fantasy tale that's been told for AGES. The only thing Star Wars offered it as was a Futuristic version.

Same thing with people claiming that any movie that deals with the world not being as it seems is like the Matrix. Matrix was the same old story.

Let Eragon be a bad movie because it wasn't engaging or anything. Not because it's like another story.

I have to say, I saw this movie its opening weekend after reading nothing but bad reviews for it ... and I left the theatre feeling everyone was exactly right ...

Myself, along with most of the audience, laughed mostly throughout the movie due to the horrid script.

Now, the special effects were good, but I am completely amazed by how bad the script really was (and there were 4 script writers on this project), especially considering the $100 million dollar budget. I'm still stunned about it to this day ...

I think this is the perfect example of Hollywood using a "proven" formula to acheive a success when it clearly isn't. If you look at websites that track box office numbers, look at the sharp decline in veiwing of this movie over the opening weekend ...

This movie proves what a horrible script can do ... I mean, all the characters were very flat, and the script really gave no credit to the audience's intelligence. The fact my friend and I were able to guess everything that was going to happen combined with the incessant need for most of the characters to have to reveal their pasts through corny, predictable expositions frankly saddens me for something that could've been far better ...

I felt it was directed in a very generic and plain manner too ... this was his first film, so I suppose I can live with it though ... but the script recieves no mercy ...

I was excited by the trailer because of the concept, and I saw the movie, feeling very dissapointed. However it got me interested in the book as I heard it was much better.

I really enjoy the book, and the sequal. Now awaiting the final book.

But the movie ruined the book, not just by what they didn't put in, but by what they changed. Some storylines of characters changed so much so, that if they did do a sequal, they would have to change the story around a lot. Not to mention the dragon looked like a bird with the feathers.

The movie had poor acting, they structured the story poorly. The jumped around. Instead of watching Safira grow up and do a montage (in the book it's over a few chapters) they decided to do something where she just magically grows. The dialogue was very poor, saying things like "she's gone" when he didn't need to say it. Perhaps they didn't have so much in terms of a budget, but they should have put a little bit more money in the locations and costumes IMO. One of the really enjoyable things about the book was the Mystery of Brom and the journey they took to find the Raz'zac. All the cities he visted along the way, the landscapes, and how he kept trying to keep his dragon a secret. Not to mention all the trouble and foes they encountered. They went to like 1 city in the movie to cut down on time when they visited several, and each was an adventure of its own.

I understand that they need to change the story to make it fit into a movie, but they didn't fix it up for a film, they just plain mutilated it. The only good thing about the film were the effects and the girl.

I like the books, but I hope they don't make a sequal as it would only be terrible.

this movie was watchable.

i liked how they used the dragon and dragon rider bond. other than that i wasnt too impressed. it's definately worth renting on DVD like i did though. it wasnt horrible, but not really a great flick either. i liked the visuals and everything except for the script. weak line after weak line. i agree with the critic who said the script felt like it was written by a 12 year old....but grossing $75 million was far more than i expected it to make even though it didnt make budget.

if you dont expect too much from this movie then you wont be let down. if you're wanting to get a taste of LOTR or Star Wars then you got the wrong movie by a long shot.

The movie is barely watchable. However, I am sure if this movie was made in the 80s, it would have been loved.
