Equipment for a feature

Re: Equipment for a feature

unless your mixer has 3 XLR inputs, yes you might wanna use a mixer o have more control on the levels, you dont wanna adjust levels on a track in the middle of a take by turning the knob on the dvx...

Good luck

Re: Equipment for a feature

use a mixer, and don't forget to get a limiter as well...
just remember, you'll also need power for your mixer, unless it is cheapo battery powered job. so you'll be screwed if you are in the middle of the blair witch project. :o

Re: Equipment for a feature

that mixer would be just fine for what you want it for. mackie makes good gear, and that price is good for what you are getting. the only thing that makes it less than perfect, is the fact that it looks to be table top style, and not rack mountable.
you may also want to consider a limiter as well...

Re: Equipment for a feature

the vlz mixer is "better" only for the fact that it has a 3-band eq as opposed to two. but i honestly doubt you would ever use the mid eq control. without a sweep, it's not that effective.
so either are good.

Re: Equipment for a feature

Thanks a ton! In regards to the limiter is that vital? to be honest i dont know what it is hehe ;D

Re: Equipment for a feature

as far as i'm concerned a limiter is vital. escpecially if you are inexperienced at capturing clean audio. if your actors go from quietly speaking to yelling within the same scene, the limiter will put a "ceiling" on the sound, therefore stopping it from peaking and causing distortion.
i swear by them. but if you are on a budget it might not be an option. the tube limiter i use cost about $400 u.s., and that's relatively inexpensive as far as quality limiters go...

Re: Equipment for a feature

Cursed, I'm just curious. Why a straight limiter and not a compressor with a limiter? I would opt for a nice transparent soft knee compressor for this, although I suppose there would be a tendency for new users to overdo the compression, still it's a better result than just cutting off the audio at 0.0. Or am I missing something with regards to recording for video?
