Equilibrium

hey, I finally saw the movie, Equilibrium, and that it was preety cool. Does anyone know if the screenwriter had taken inspiration from the books 1984 or fahrenheit 451?

Could be, but it's hard to write a story like that without comparisons being made.

I liked Equilibrium alright, but I think it's overrated, especially as an action movie.

I would be surprised if he did not have at least some influence from those books... seeing as there was so much alike.

Gillis, I do beleive you are correct, it is very overrated as an action movie, I kinda think it's a little overrated overall. But I enjoyed it non-the-less. I am a fan of the concepts brought on by 1984, and F.451. But you gotta admit, even wit the semi-lack of action, the ending action scenes were preety sweet...

I have read, though I can’t confirm it (unless you take IMDb’s “Version Of” as confirmation), that it was a remake of “Logan’s Run,” which isn’t hard to believe . . . considering it’s almost page for page the same script.

Overrated?! A movie that no one saw that grossed something like $1.5m...TOTAL!

I think this is a great "cult" film. The "better than Matrix" quote on the front of the DVD probably helps fuel this "action film" perception but I don't think Wimmer's intent was to make a great action flick.

Dyrseve989, I am sure you are correct on the influences for it...could also add THX 1138 to that list.

The first half of EQUILIBRIUM = THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK.

The second half of EQUILIBRIUM = RETURN OF THE JEDI.

I enjoyed the movie, and IMO the first half of the movie was as good as THE MATRIX. The second half just did not deliver what was promised, and instead turned into a predictable Hollywood ending.

It's definitely worth renting, though.

good call christopher, I did like it alot more then matrix, in terms of story. Although matrix had a very cool concept, I feel like I would like the 1st one alot more if they didnt make the other two......some people don't know to leave well enough alone

(Rocky I........II,III, VI, V, JFFIGHIWGMSFKD!!!!!!!)

Dyrseve989, I totally agree with you on the Matrix sequels. They tarnished the original movie as much as the prequels tarnished the original Star Wars trilogy. Better to pretend none of those inferior sequels/prequels ever happened!

haha, agreed, its always hard though, its like watching City of God, and then right after trying to get into the mindset of enjoying Life Boat by hitchcock(which is an excellent flick by the way)

yea, I grabbed this flick from my brother's mess of DVD's......he's not exactly the best judge on movies, so I really wasent expecting much, but by the time I got to the endng fight scene where goeas all kick ass on Big Brother - I was ready to go out and learn juditsu

yeah I have no idea where you guys are coming up with it being overrated. The movie pretty much got no exposure at all. I wouldn't even have known about it unless I was a film geek. Christain Bale obviously is famous now as batman...but I bet you know one knows that he was in this one.

This movie has some kick ass fight scenes...some of the best i've seen.

Haha! You obviously haven't seen many good fight scenes then...

I thought the "gun kata" thing was probably the worst thing about the movie. It's ridiculous and also pretty ironic because it's perhaps the most implausible, uneffective thing I've ever seen, and in the movie they hyped it as being of the utmost effectiveness.

You don't know how to enjoy youself then...you probably liked Batman Begin's fight scenes :) It was new and very well thought out...and Bale was cool as hell.

Personally I liked the "gun kata" and I liked the movie. Of course it was stupid but ALL action movies are stupid! I mean think about it! How many times have we seen the bad guys fire 9 million rounds and not hit the good guy? What about the hero getting shot and five minutes later whip 10 bad guys and kill the villain? People jumping out of planes in a life raft? One guy beats thirty armed thugs? Need I go on? In order for an action movie to work, it has to have action and lots of it. The more fantastic the better. If you can name one action movie that wasn't stupid, please do so. Reality does not exist in action movies, that's why we love them.
