Equilibrium - Action or Beauty?

Now Equilibrium is seen as the little film that could. An action film with crazy fight scenes that's created a cult following which seems to get famous through word of mouth.

Some will say it has some of the craziest fight scenes, and some will say that they're the most ridiculous and impractical. I personally enjoyed the action, but my question is this:

How did you feel about the rest of the film? I've always felt that you could divide the movie in half. On one side you have the crazy fight scenes, and on the other, the beautiful operatic scenes. These are the scenes where we see Bale working out his emotions for the first time, or the scene between an emotionless Bale and the sense offender Sean Bean just as he's about to be shot.

So basically, aside from the action, how do you feel about the rest of the film? If you haven't seen it, it's worth a rent.

This is one of those movies where you could see a good film in the making, but they never quite got there. Too much stuff is just plain stupid and cheesy, like "Gunkata". Whoever thought that would sound cool needs to be slapped. 'It's like karate, but with guns!'. The actual execution of Gunkata is just as cheesy. And the resolution, namely the way the oppressive regime is defeated, not very believable. There are better movies that deal with similar themes, namely THX 1138 (which Equilibrium steals much from) and the Matrix.

I really enjoy this film.

I think the thing that first drew me to it was the story and not the action. At times yes, it is over the top, but it hold together well. The interaction between Bale and his son is interesting. I need to watch this again, I haven't seen it in a looong time.

I really wanted to like it. Didnt.

The only thing I liked was the gunfight in the dark, but the Gunkata ruined it.
