The Dude Abides
EPSON has developed a new version of the MOVERIO headset that is a great FPV tool for Phantom Vision pilots. I've been flying a Vision + with these for a week and I don't think I'll ever go back to using a smartphone or tablet to monitor the telemetry and video feed. We've posted a review on our site HERE. Basically, these glasses operate as a HUD (Heads Up Display) using an Android-based controller that projects the DJI Vision app onto the glasses. The camera feed and telemetry "float" in the field of view equivalent to an 80" screen. This allows you to maintain line of sight with your drone and your surroundings while simultaneously having the app display in front of you. Furthermore, you can simply tap the side of the glasses to turn the Heads-Up display off and on.
For more than a year I have used the original version of the MOVERIO system with great results but always with a regret that the glasses were rather heavy and bulky. EPSON has dramatically reduced the weight and form factor and have significantly brightened the display so that it is a very capable FPV system. Unfortunately, unlike the original version that accepted a composite video in (so I could use them with any FPV setup), this new version only works with the DJI Android app and, thus, only with the P2 Vision products. It is possible an update will allow us to have a separate video input, but for now these are exclusively for VISION owners.
Those interested in this solution can purchase via the prelaunch website HERE.
