I finally restarted my Netflix subscription to watch Enola Holmes at the recommendation of a client. I thought it was the first made-for-streaming movie I've seen that has the ambition and style of a theatrical release. But then I found out it was supposed to have a theatrical run and only went straight to streamers because of covid.
The opening is linked below. I tried to find a longer clip of the beginning because the pace and energetic intercutting of 4th-wall-breaking interior monologue and flashbacks continues with surprising endurance. The editing is equally impressive after the animation concludes. Acting, writing, directing... firing on all cylinders. Young women are probably the principal target audience, but it's a lot of fun and anyone should be able to appreciate the technique.
