Enemy at the Gates

Watched this movie again today for the first time in a couple years.

I enjoyed it. Well shot and acted, although I was a tad dissapointed it was in English the whole time. Also, the whole love triangle sub plot was, in my head, completely unnecessary and could have shaved probably a good 45 minutes to an hour off the film for the better. Really did add or develop the characters any better and would have worked better without it IMO.

What do you guys think?

They probably would have done well to cleave a bit closer to the real histories of the people involved (a sad irony/footnote to an already tragic story, is that after the Battle of Stalingrad, Zaitsev was blinded by an exploding land mine). Yeah, the romance was misplaced, awkward, and detracted from the rest of the film. That part has studio execs' greasy little pawprints all over it.

That said, where it was good, it was good.

If you want someone to design the most beautiful wreckage in the world, Wolf Kroeger's your man.
