ending a story at the climax?

...& they always start with the end of the last week. And there was Rocketman; tryin' to get out...and here comes the cliff...& just before the car went off the cliff, he jumped free! And all the kids cheered! But I didn't cheer. I stood right up & started shouting, "This isn't what happened last week!! Have you all got amnesia??! They just cheated us!! This isn't fair!! HE DID'NT GET OUT OF THE COCK-A-DOODIE CAR!!!!"

I definitely understand where Annie was coming from on that point.

Ending a story on the climax however is a good question. If I were to end a story on a climax the question I would be ask myself is:

1) Why am I ending this on a climax? Is this what the story and characters need?

You could always try ending it on the climax and see what happens. If it's not what you're looking for you can always try a different approach.

You should also re-watch Vertigo. That film did not end on a climax, however in a way it did have a "duel" climax with one falling in the middle of the film and another one at the end. That might give you some ideas.
