Encore

I want to import a 16:9 video file into Adobe Encore 1.5 and it won't let me. It says that files have to be 720x480 or something close to that size. I find it hard to believe that you cannot make a widescreen in Encore. If anyone has any input on this or can point me in the right direction that would be very helpful. I have searched around the internet and have found absolutely nothing.

What is your input video resolution?
720x480 is NTSC SD (standard definition) file and if it's 16:9 then your video must be vertically streched. DVD pleyer squeezes video back to normal, but "physically" to 16:9. This is known as anamorpic widescreen.
Encore can't accept higher resolution than 720x480 because it's not SD then.

So how would I go about doing this? I understand that I have to stretch it, so does that mean i have to like put the video file into sorenson squeeze and convert it to the 720x480? I guess I don't understand how the dvd player is going to understand that it is a 16:9 video if I have to change the video resolution. Again any help is apperciated thanks in advance.

Make sure you have gone to Edit/preferences/preview/tv mode and switched it to 16:9. I don't know if this will help, but it might work.

From where your video file came? If DVX100, then resolution in 720x480 no matter if it's 4:3 or 16:9. When you edit this file, stay on 720x480 and export from editing application as 4:3. Visually it is stetched but MPEG2 encoder (Sorenson) makes this 16:9.
If you encode 16x9 MPEG2 for DVD, then you have to "tick 16:9 mode" in your encoder, right? This gives to video stream certain 16:9 "bit", DVD player reads this info and squeezes your vertically stretched picture back to 16:9.
Hope you understood :-)
