how or can you create a menu where you can get a round botton to move from text to text instead of a highlighting selection. I tried creating a botton in photoshop and then bringing it into encore and attempted to have it 0 opacity when it is not selected but i cant seem to figure it out is there an easier way
 
It can be done by properly naming your layers in photoshop. Just design the whole menu in photoshop, and use the encore naming conventions for your layers. Check the help menu in encore for specifics... it's really pretty intuitive.

What your looking for is a "highlight" which can be a seperate image (like a circle).
 
The best way to build Encore Menus is in Photoshop.

To make a button, you need to make a layer set and name it "(+)ButtonName". Inside of that layer set, make your button (including the text, etc), and then make a layer named "(=1)" - this layer is the layer that will be displayed when the user selects your button.

If you're talking about making a button that is animated, i.e. that moves smoothly from one bit of text to another when you press the arrow buttons on your remote, this is impossible (at least without a complex manually-constructed system of timelines and menus, one for each of those animations, which in any case wouldn't be able to load fast enough on most players to make the transition smooth). Also, the DVD format is quite restrictive in terms of what the hilight layer can look like. I think it might even have to be always one colour.

If, for example, you just want to make a white circle appear beside whatever menu item (each menu item is technically a button) is selected, here's what you do.

In Photoshop, inside of each of your button layer sets (the "(+)"named sets that contain button text, etc), make a layer called "(=1)" that contains a white circle beside your text. If you import this menu into photoshop, unselected menu items will have no white circle, and selected menu items will have one.

i attmpted to fallow your insturction however i am using an image of a orange button (3D) not a simple white circle. the only thing that is changin when i switch from unselected to selected is the menu color option whihc i would prefer to have off. THere is no orange buton its a simple flat color
 
In DVD, highlight colors are very restricted. They consist of a single color that must fall within the safe limits for the type of project that you are authoring (NTSC or PAL).
