Encore - 24p DVD creation..

I read couple of posts here and tried this out but I cannot get this working..
here is what I did..

shot in 24p in DVX.
edited in PP2 (24p timeline)
output the timeline as MPEG-DVD (.m2v) file from PP2.
the settings in adobe media encoderhere were :
720x480p, 23.976 frames, 7 MB/sec contant rate 1 pass,
pixel aspect ration of 4:3,audio is PCM 16-bit 48KHz
GOP: N=2 and M=12.

So I created this .m2v and .wav file. Then created a NTSC project in encoder.
try to export the .m2v and .wav as a timeline. Set the transcod settings
for .m2v file to be 'Don't Transcode'. I also set the same thing for audio
but when I do that I get a error saying that timline bitrate cannot exceed the maximum bit rate.
So I set the transcode settings for audio ONLY ( let the .m2v remain without any transcoding)
as 'Automatic' and this fixes the problem...
The overall transcode setting for the encore project is 7Mb/sec progressive, Quality=5, 4:3

Now when I try to write it to DVD , I give me an error at the end after its done with the writing..
it says failure : problem with hardware..but it writes the DVD though..
Now this DVD I can play of computer well but when I bring it to a DVD player I cannot play it...

Where I am going wrong? All I want it to creat e 24P DVD....

Please help me ..

If anybody can please point me to some link if you do not want to answer these common questions again and again...I know its a pain to explain the same thing to hundreds of people millions of times..but believe me I did searched and tried to do of my own..but i could not ..which is why I am seeking help..

-thanks
Vivek

I use those exact same settings (except mine are 16x9) and everything works like a charm from encore. Try reducing the burning speed and see if it's an issue with the media or burner itself. (but your settings are all correct)

Hmm..well then i have no clue why is it not working..i have been doing this for a number of times now..wasting my DVDs..but with no success..I will try reducing the speed though...
So is it creating a 24P DVD by any chance or it is still a NTSC DVD. Why I say so it when I create a project it allows me to choose only two types : NTSC or PAL....

-Also I am having a terrible problem of video quality degrading while writing it to DVD..for some reason when I am writing these DVD using the above settings (which I can play on computers and not on DVD players as such) ..the image is very very GRAINY..extremely distracting...Am I doing some sort of more compression than it is needed...

God I will go crazy with this DVD stuff...
Guys, please guide me so that I can atleast complete this project..

-regards
Vivek

People,
I am still stuck ..can some please take some time and walk me thru the process thru which they have been able to create a 24pDVD using encore and pp2.
Also they might be able to tell me why my video is getting grainy when I am transporting to mpeg.

-thanks
Vivek

most of my dvds look grainy on my computer monitor but look pristine on an HD TV monitor....(Not sure why). So I woudln't worry too much about that.

In Media Encoder from premiere I chose Widescreen NTSC high quality. 23.976FPS, Quality 5. CBR. I usually set the CBR to about 6000. Once the M2v file is created I import it into Encore. Now oncore automatically has NTSC setting as 29.97 (rightfully so). What it does is flag your footage to add a 3:2 so it can play on TV. (your DVD player will add the frames to make it conform to 29.97)...if you play on a 480P capable TV through Component, you should be able to play in native 23.97 FPS.
You have to remember that 24P is not an NTSC standard. Even your high budget film that are created in 24P are played back as 29.97 on a regular NTSC TV... It appears that you are using all the correct settings...except maybe you are setting the bit rate a little too high. Try outputting it to 6000 (instead of 7000)....just for testing purposes.... Let me know what happens...if it's still fails I will send you screen shots of my settings!

3xm thanks a lot for helping me out...I will surely do whatever you said..and will let you know..
-thanks
Vivek

craigbowman,
So do you think I am doing it correct? I will set the max rate to 6 as advised by 3xm. Do you also face the problem of your film getting a lot of grains when converted to DVD as opposed to avi when you watch it on computer?

I have a coby DVD player and a standard TV which is connected to DVD player thru RF modulator..the DVD player says that it can play progressive DVDs though ..for that matter it plays all the movies well..so I do not think that DVD player is an issue though...

craigbowman,
what is your trans coding settings for the project in encore?
Do you let encore trans code your m2v file at all or choose the option of 'Don't Transcode'?

Hi 3xm,
I am still stuck..I tried as you said but this is not working for me..
can you please send me a screen shot of the media encoder...and the projects settings screenshot of encore..
I am wondering where should I change the GOP be settings to n=2 and m=12 or leave them in thier default settings..

Hi,
Wow, I was able to create a 24P DVD eventually...thanks to everyone here who took time to help me...folks are so very helpful here..

one quick thing: I exported the .m2v and .mpa (the mgep audio file) thru PP2.
When I imported them to encore it did not trascode the .m2v file but for the audio file (which was already encoded to mgped -2 audio) it set the transcoding settings to 'automatic' and when DVD was being written it again transcoded the audio..so did it end up with double encoding? or this is normal..
should I just change the transcoding settings for the audio to 'don't transcode'?

let me know when u get a chance..
-thanks once again..

Merry Christmas!

ok,
I just want to know that whether should I transcode my audio again or not in encore when I already rendered it as MPEG-2 from PP2?

Any kind of advise/answer is higly appreciated...this will enable me to complete this project and make a successful DVD to give it to my actors...

PAL Playback

PAL Playback

Hi
- Will DVDs that's been encoded this way play back in Europe on PAL machines?
- Can this method be used instead of making separate PAL and NTSC version of a 24p source?

Thanks

i found this thread just after posting mine in ...anwyay

i'm getting poor quality showing on a HDTV set.. its al jaggy

i'm trying another encode now form pro cs2
