I need a lav mike for a shoot in just a couple of days. I can only find a "F" Flat Response EMW here in Salt Lake. An audio friend of mind, (not a professional), said the flat will work find for interviews and will give the truest quailty. Anybody...is this true?

I own about 5 or 6 emw's..dont use them very often.
If i do, its usually in a vampire clip situation, which means i'll be hiding it.
So i believe i bought most of mine with a shelved response to make up for a little bit of the muddyness of putting it under clothing.

I'd probably still want a shelved for dialog purposes even if it was exposed,
but perhaps thats just me.

Your friend is correct. "Flat" simply means is does not filter out/cut or boost any frequencies, it should work out just fine. If you need to cut or boost, that's what a mixer does.

just because a microphone is "flat" doesnt necessarily mean its the right choice, or the sound that is appealing to hear.
