Emerson College

hi everyone,
i visited emerson college in boston yesterday and it seemed really nice. i myself want to go someplace to major in acting and have the opportunities to act in films as well, which would be abundant there given the huge filmmaking draw and sheer number of films per week that are shot there. it would also be cool to take some classes in filmmaking, cinematography, etc...
the only facility i saw was the video editing room. two rows of monitors, dv decks, all using avid.

there was one guy in there editing video wtih headphones on; big no-no? sort of threw me a bit given the reputation of the school. also, how is anyone supposed to edit in a room with 20 other people?

well, just was wondering if anyone has any personal (or other) experience of the school they'd like to share.

Re: Emerson College

My dad says run, don't walk, away from Emerson.
He wouldn't even let me apply.
"Back in my day, Emerson used to be one of those colleges you see on the side of a bus..'Need a Degree? Go to Emerson."
Of course, he was a Harvard snoot.
But he's a pretty reasonable person, and I took a hint when we woulnd't even let me apply...He says it's all in one building, and that Emerson people (in the 70's) were social outcasts....

nuff for you?
Note how NONE of this is really based on personal experience...

Re: Emerson College

hehe. seems plausible. i thought it had a really excellent reputation as one of the leading, up-and-coming film schools or something. also, definitely not all in one building as i had a tour. but it is in just a few high-rises on city streets, which i think is much cooler than your tradition rolling green campus.

thanks for the feedback, comrade.

Re: Emerson College

Don't have personal experience with Emerson, but I knew some people who did acting there. They seemed to like it.

Re: Emerson College

My friend is a film major there. He wasn't crazy about his fellow classmates but said the place was good otherwise. You can get into a lot of good grad schools there, and they have some good alums, I think. I'd definitely look into it. The social outcast thing may be true, but where I go to school, it's even more true......

Check out Tisch, too (at NYU). Super hard to get into, but the best of the best. I know a bunch of people there; they love it. NYU is big and scary (my impression) but they say the smaller acting school is great. I wouldn't know, never been there.
