I have been working with FCP for about 3 years, but have never had to export to tape. I normally go from quicktime to Beta, but I have a client that wants a mini dv tape. I have a dual 2.4 Mackbook pro running FCP 5.1.4. When I try to print to tape from the timeline, I get a black screen. I have audio, and whenever I park the playhead-that frame shows up on my dvx lcd. If I try to print to video-same thing. I record audio and a black screen. Once I stop, that frame shows up on the lcd. My external video is set to all frames, My playback is set to 2323 pulldown, and I shot in 24pa. I'm supposed to give him his video today! I need help.

Try clicking in the canvas and hitting shift-z. Then playback.

Thanks for the prompt reply, but it didn't work. Still only get the frame that I'm stopped on.

Try exporting as a QuickTime movie with current settings. Then open in the viewer and playout to firewire.

Not sure if you did this or not, but did you change your Easy Setup to output to FireWire? There's a Basic FireWire setting in there that should work for most cameras. If you're going out to Beta using a serial cable, then you'll never be able to print to miniDV unless you change your settings. Let us know.
