embedded video size on a website

Hello Everyone,

I am wondering what your guys' thoughts are on the size of embedded videos on a website..
My site right now has quicktime videos embeded in it at a frame size of 640x360 and each video has an average size of 25mb.

I'd like to increase the frame size to maybe.. 800x450, which would be much bigger but i'm worried about the file size, and maybe people with older, slower connections may not be able to download the bigger files...
What do you guys think the limit should be on file size for embedded videos?

Thanks.

When you say "embedded" video do you mean your hosting the video on your own server or are you embedding a link to Vimeo or Youtube?

I have more than 30 videos hosted on Vimeo with almost 100K downloads in about six months, all are 1280x720 and approximately 100MB's each. Currently I'm doing a new website that embeds these videos, same resolution but I have lowered the bit rate slightly to make sure they cam all be streamed to iPads and iPhones. So far so good, so I think the days of tiny web videos are numbered.

iDevices are a pain because they don't support flash, which is why I'm re-doing my site. Here's a video that is hosted on vimeo and youtube that is embedded in my site and it plays fine on an iPhone: http://www.vimeo.com/14686829

Hey,

Yes I am hosting my own quicktime files on my own web server. I chose to go this way because I want the videos accessible on mobile platforms.
I am bringing up the question because right now the videos on my site only have a frame size of 640x360 and would like to bump that up to maybe 800x450.
I just don't want the resulting file size to be too overwhelming for visitors...
