Emailing a video file...

What is the best way to email a video file to someone? I was asked to create a 10 second or so slate to be used on a demo reel for someone and I want to be able to send it to them via email so they can check it out before I output to tape or DVD. What is the best solution?

I wouldn't e-mail it. I would upload using ftp to a server for them to view it. You can even upload it on youtube or something similar and then send them the link.

Since this is just for approval compress it to QT or WMV at 320 x 240. 10 seconds at 900k/sec will be well under 5 megs, so you can attach it to the e-mail.

What do i need to set up an ftp server? I need to look into this because I live in one state but work in another state and have clients that I could just put the video up on the ftp server and they could grab it off at their leisure. Since I dont have this set up right now. I have to drive my finished tape all the way up to Philly just so this project makes it on the morning news! :(

I posted this on the other thread too.

Try this too.

you upload the file, and put in their email address, and it emails them a link to download it.
I've used it a few times and it works pretty damn good. I've sent full quality SD .mov's before.

Most of the hosting companies provide ftp as part of the hosting package. You usually just go into the site management console and set up the user accounts and directory structure and off you go. Send your customers the ftp login credentials and they can upload/download their files. Alternatively set up some space for anonymous ftp if you don't need to restrict access.

Cool. Does it add any sort of signature to the email or no?

i'm pretty sure there is no signature added to it, it just sends an email to the person with a link to download it. when they download it, it sends you an email saying they downloaded it. Then you can actually delete it from there or just wait till the expiration date to remove it automatically.
It has a 300mb limit per file though.
