Hi guys,
Did anyone see "Elite Squad"? I Portuguese it's called "Tropa de Elite". I'm not even sure if this premiered outside Brazil yet. I have to say I'm super impressed with this film. Like City of God it's theme is drug traffic, but while City of God has all the glamour of a "big budget commercial film" (not only the visuals but also the structure and everything), Elite Squad is shot on a more dirty documentary stile and it presents a much more honest and direct vision of things...in the sense that it looks at the issue from all different points of view (although it focus more on Rio's special police force), describing the drug traffic issue cycle with precision. I absolutely loved City of God and I absolutely loved Elite Squad, but even though both movies are digging into similar subjects different visual languages are "spoken" making Elite Squad MUCH different from City of God but equally excellent. Variety has included Elite Squad's director José Padilha on their 10 newest hottest directors to look for.
Oh, and I cannot forget to mention a great performance by Wagner Moura (he plays Capitao Nascimento).
Now go watch this awesome movie!
