electric ballast

hello,
absolute beginner:

do i need for such a light http://www.ltt-versand.de/Licht/Sch...I-ARRILITE-2000-plus-ohne-Stecker::60488.html or the older version of it

a electric ballast ? or can i just bump it in the wall and work? For what do i need a electric ballast?

That's a tungsten fixure, so no ballast is needed. Ballasts are only needed for HMIs and fluorescents.

You don't need a ballast but you'd better be careful plugging a 2k into a wall socket. Make sure it's a 20 amp receptacle like this:

Unless you live in 240v land of course, that's a whole different story.
