I had an idea today I've got an amazing prop that needs to be used
I'm not a writer but this little idea piqued my own intrest.

any thoughts?

Eject?

Ext wide shot dolly to right
Sunrise empty countryside field early morning, winter, misty, silent.
Several shots like this to set the ambience
Shots get closer we can sort of make something out in the middle of a field.

Cross fade to the back of some kind of seat/chair partly embedded into the soil

Dolly round the side toward the front we get closer to the “chair” and we can now make out stickers on it.

“DANGER DO NOT PULL HANDLE”

“THIS SEAT IS SAFE TO USE AT GROUND LEVEL AT A SPEED OF 90 KNOTS”

We can assume this is an ejection seat from some sort of military aircraft.
It looks vintage probably from the sixties.

It has an occupant.

Dressed in a modern day office attire

Dip to black…

I love this.

Many of the greatest scripts ever have started out with similarly weird images. I have absolutely no idea where to go from or before this point though.

For a guy that "Isn't a writer" you sure wrote an engaging scene. I'd hate to think what you do with things you're good at.

Where in the hell did you get an ejector seat anyhow? I'd love to have one, use it as living room furniture.

One other thing, how about it's the skeleton of guy in a office suit and the suit --like hes been there a long time etc.

The first thing I would like to point out is that the idea might be good but it needs to go much further. For example what if the man is sitting in the seat because he has had to take a long journey to get to that seat, ie he's trying to find out what happened to his father. The seat could be the final moment in a screenplay that you show as a setup (the inciting incident). All you need now is to have a set up, second act, and climax lol... Welcome to the madness that will consume the rest of your life known as writing.

Yeah, like Hitchcock (the Hitchcock cycle). I love doing things like that. A great DVD to buy for ideas about writing is: "The Devil's Backbone" The director talks a ton about the cycles in the film and how they mature as the film goes along.

Time travel huh? Just watched "Prince of Darkness" for the 100099000..... time, I still think that idea of broadcasting into peoples dreams from the future is so killer!

ok, very nice image, we end unexpectedly seeing a guy in modern business attire, but - what's he doing? having a nice nap? talking on his cellphone? bleeding to death from a crash landing? having his skeleton used as a bird's nest? Kind of makes a difference, huh?

Nice image. It's really a great jumping off point for .... something.

This reminds me of The mysteries of Harris Burdick

nice! i really like them

Your opening reminds me of a TEASER for a TV pilot.

Is this for TV?

EJ

nah just me and my mates project, can you remember which show?

Ejected

(Synopsis)

A young pilot of a Vulcan Bomber is serving active duty in the Falklands war in 1982. His name is Reggie Dawson.

He has a young wife at home who called Mary who as just given birth to a young son named James.

The Ministry of defence is secretly testing radar invisibility technology, an accident aboard a Vulcan results in a crash and suspected loss of all crew a Top Secret gagging order is placed on the file.

The universe is unknown and unknowable, this pale blue dot in space we know called earth is but a fraction of what we know about the universe, sometimes unexplained things happen that are unexplainable , atoms, particles, molecules, quantum physics and circumstance sometimes collide…
this happened to Reggie on the 4th of April 1982.

The pilots brother who’s name is Malcom served as ground crew in the RAF at the same time Reggie was serving and rumours began that the M.O.D (Ministry of Defence) were covering up the loss of the flight.

A tragic traffic accident kills Mary at a young age and James is raised by his uncle Malcom.

As a young boy James always asks about his father, Malcom always reminisces about
how skilled a pilot Reggie was and how he was one of the RAF’s top gun’s.

Even as a young boy James always feels Malcom knows more about his fathers death than he lets on, as the years pass Malcom reveals more to James about the events leading up to the accident about how the MOD were testing secret technology.

James is now a young man and begins to take a keen interest in the Falklands war and begins to research the ill fated mission to bomb Port Stanley runway.

Searching around various conspiracy/unsolved cases type websites James learns rumours and suspicions that:

  • The bodies of the crew were never discovered even though from the wreckage of the flight the investigators could tell the pilots had ejected.

  • Articles about the MOD were testing radar invisibility, and electronic jamming.

  • Reports about the pilots surviving the accident

  • An unconfirmed report about a mental patient claiming to be a Falklands veteran even though he would only have been 5 years old when the conflict began…

A young man who grows up without a father is always wondering what it would be like to have that figure in their life…

James Dawson might just find out….

maybe Reggie is Malcom! or James is Reggie!!

j/k

maybe James recreates the accident?

i can see how the Deep Space Nine episode "The Visitor" could influence this story.

Here's the plot (from wikipedia):

On a rainy night on Earth, the elderly Jake Sisko is visited by an aspiring novelist Melanie, who is curious to learn why Jake gave up writing after publishing two successful books. Jake, knowing the time in his life is short, decides to tell her his story, revealed as flashbacks in the episode.

About eighty years prior, when Jake was eighteen, he went with his father Captain Benjamin Sisko on the USS Defiant to observe the inversion of the Bajoran Wormhole, an event that only occurs every fifty years. The inversion causes a malfunction in the Defiant's warp drive, but Sisko and his son are able to fix it. However, as they congratulate themselves, a bolt of energy discharges from the warp drive and strikes Sisko, causing him to vanish. Believing him to be dead, Jake and the rest of Deep Space Nine mourn for his loss, but a few months later, Jake catches sight of his father for a brief moment. A year after the incident, Captain Sisko appears again, remaining much longer than before, and Jake and the rest of the crew ascertain that his temporal signature is out of phase, but cannot correct it in the limited time. Before he disappears, Sisko urges his son to lead a full life and not to worry about his father.

Jake honors his father's request, returning to Earth, becoming a writer and settling down in marriage. However, Sisko appears again to him in Jake's home, and Jake decides to try to save his father, foregoing his life and relationships to study the cause. Fifty years after the incident, with the help of Dax, Bashir, and Nog (now a Captain in Starfleet), Jake attempts to recreate the events with the Defiant and the wormhole inversion. While Sisko successfully appears, both he and Jake shortly disappear as they hold each other. Jake finds himself with his father in a white void; Sisko is glad to see his son but begs him to give up on saving him and to live out his life. Jake returns to normality without his father, and vows to continue to search for a way to recover him.

On the night of Melanie's visit, Jake knows his father will appear again, and has injected himself with a lethal hypospray dose, believing that he is acting as a tether that is keeping his father out of phase; by dying, his father will become unstuck and revert back before the warp core incident. After seeing Melanie off, Jake waits for his father. Sisko appears as expected, and Jake explains everything to him, telling him that his death will give them both a "second chance", and reminds him to dodge the energy discharge. Jake dies in Sisko's arms; Sisko immediately finds himself back on the Defiant, and remembers elder Jake's advice, pushing himself and his son out of the way of the energy discharge, erasing the future timeline. As they return home together, Sisko gains a greater appreciation for his son, knowing he would have given up his life for his father.
