Either the DVX or FCP needs and Exorcism..HELP!!

Hey gang:

I am beyond puzzled. Anyone can offer some advice?

Here is the deal...A couple of months ago I shot a music mideo with 24PA with my DVX100A and all was well. I opened a new project in FCP using the 24P Advanced Pulldown Removal to Capture. All was beautiful! I was dropping my clips to the timeline and editing like a champ. I noticed though in the last tape when I dropped it into the timeline, it needed to be rendered. Not a major hazzle and I coudn't figure out why the heck it was doing that...but being the last tape and only a couple of minutes, I didn't care.

Last week I shot a documentary and I was digitizing all my stuff. Again 24PA and I opened a new project...same deal. But now when I drop my clips, it needs to be rendered...what a pain. I checked all the settings and everything matched.

HERE IS THE WEIRD PART...because I couldn't find out what the heck was the problem I brought the first tape I shot on the music video and digitized a bit...when it was in the bin I pulled it to my timeline..BAM no need to render. Now I digitized a new tape...when in the bin I dropped to the timeline..FREAKING needs to be rendered.

So I kept on looking around for some possible explanation...I found this:

I checked the item properties for the music video clip and under Vid Rate it shows 23.98fps.

When I check the item properties for the documentary clip I am currently working on it shows Vid Rate as 29.98.

BUT I KNOW it is shooting in 24PA....does anyone have any clues as to hat the hell is happening here?

Soudns liek advanced pulldown got turned off somehow or you hit a timcode break and it didn't do adv pulldown removal. Check your sequence settings (including fps, sound, size)

yeah everything is a match....I am wondering if there is a problem with the DVX communicating the proper frame rate with the FCP. It has to be the information recorded into the tape I guess. It doesnt make sense how one tape I digitize gets a correct 23.98 frame rate and then another one gets a 29.97...eventhough it is recording in 23.97

You might need to delete FCP's prefs when FCP starts acting a little nuts.

yep. thatwasone ofthe first things I had done. The weird thing is that if I recapture the first two tapes I shot amonth ago (the ones that did not give anyproblems) and put them in the timeline....they work. If I capture any of the newer tapes and put them in the same timeline...they dont.

When you play back your most recent tapes in the DVX, does it say that it is playing back 24PA material throughout in its LCD window? I've had an issue before in FCP where it gave me some problems when there was some accidental 24P mixing in the (mostly) 24PA tapes.

yep...I only shoot 24PA. All tapes I've checked and it shows 24PA in LCD window. i think the culprit might be Quicktime 7. I installed it 1 month ago and some other things have been causing problems. I can't say with certainty it is the problem but I think quicktime 7 and FCP 4.5 dont mix well.

I had a simular problem recently.

I had a simular problem recently.

I just shot my daughters wedding last month and when capturing some footage I received a cadence error. It would start capturing in 29.9 instead of 23.9. I remebered seeing the red x a few times when turning on the camera during the wedding so I cleaned my heads then recaptured. This time it all came out with the pull down removed.
