Eiditing film in photoshop

I hear of people editing stuff in photoshop, and am wondering how you do it. For instance, how would you add a flash from a gun barrel in photoshop? Or would you even use photoshop for it? Also, people color correct in photoshop, how is this done? Do you have to apply it to EVERY SINGLE FRAME? Also, how do you import it into Photoshop in the first place? Tim.

Ive wondered the sammmee exact question for the longest time....hm...does Photoshop CS2 support .TIFF image sequences?...anyone..?

Not sure about Vegas, but in Premiere you export a filmstrip (.flm file), Open that file in PS and it's a single huge image with multiple frames for each frame of video. You add the effect in PS then save the file back to Premiere. It's late now and I've got another 15 hour day tomorrow so I must hit the sack but I'll post a "training" video tomorrow pm if I have time.

I'm still wondering about this. Can someone give me some insight. I hear about people doing CC in Photshop etc. How is that done? Is it applied to EVERY single frame, then exported back? I have no idea how to do this.

BTW: I'm using Vegas 5

I thnk you need to render as individual images (there is a script for that built in) and then do everything one frame at a time. Gun flashes wouldn't be so bad, because it is only a few frames but CC would be a nightmare I think.

Another way to "paint" frames

Another way to "paint" frames

Hi guys,
Corel Painter is able to import AVI files, and stack up all the frames; you can then apply textures or paint with a huge variety of tools. At the end you can save the modified AVI file.
It's long and takes a lot of patience - a lot more than I have.

If you grab a full screen image as a jpeg from Vegas you can use and alter that in Photoshop. You can import the altered jpeg back into Vegas and position it in a video track above your main track. This works for single frames. I'm not sure how you would CC a whole load of frames though.

Just as you already figured. Expoert a zillion frames, diddle with them, and reimport them. Photoshop most likely has a batch process, so some processes might go a little easier/faster.

All you need is time and patience. And artistic ability.

I have lots of the first, none of the second or third. :)

Since you can do so much with CC'ing in Vegas, why worry about Photoshop at all? As far as gun flashes, I think you could do as good if not better (and easier) with Particle Illusion, or another particle software.

Otherwise, if you wanted a gun flash, my thought would be to make one in Photoshop with a transparency. Then, using the bezier curves mask, you could quickly reveal/mask it in Vegas. I believe it would look pretty good, and still have a bit of an animated effect that way too.

I just did a quick and dirty attempt and am impressed already.

I used PS and Saved as TIFFs. It looks like a muzzle flash.
