I have some footage of a couple friends meditating by the water on some rocks and i have the exact same camera angle and everything just without them there. I want to make it look like they are rising up in the air. I tried doing this by just using one frame of the guys copied out using a pen tool work path then going frame by frame in a .flm and pasing them in and making it look like they rose up but it was so wobbly and awful. How can I accomplish this?? Please help. I have adobe premiere 1.5 pro, after effects 6.5, and avid xpress. My friend suggested a motion matte...? I dont know. What is the easiest way to do this and maybe a brief walkthrough? Thank-you for yer time. :)

Not sure how to do it well by just cutting them out of each frame, but if I wanted to make them " magically float " i'd reshoot in front of a green screen and then key it out over that empty shot. sorry if thats a really obvious fix.

Two layers in AE. Top layer with actors, bottom layer without. Draw a mask tightly around them in the top layer. If you turn off the bottom layer you should see them isolated, no background. So far so good. Turn the bottom layer back on again. Now just animate the position of the top layer and you should be done. It's a pretty simple thing.

While you're doing it, play with the settings of the mask until it looks natural and not hard-edged. And then look up "ease in" and "ease out" in the help file and use that too.

ok so i made 2 masks around the two people, i have 2 masks now in the forground or top layer as it is. Around the two people there is just black. Everything is like you said so far. Now do I do track motion or what? the AE help is not too helpful with animating masks. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me with this next step. I know I'm a n00b but eventually with help i will be answering other n00bs questions.

Probably the easiest way and a more convincing look is to use a bluescreen with the guy at the exact same area where you're shooting. This helps with lighting continuity. Plus make sure you keep your shot static so wont have to motion track anything. Shoot a raw plate. Keep practicing.

I actually ended up using the masks to create movement under the transform tab and then the position tab. It looks decent. I mean not perfect but pretty good. I thank everyone for their help. My next step is putting fire in their hands in a different shot.

Can anyone reccommend the best filter or fire animation creation tool for this?

Thanks again people :)
