Effective use of the handheld look

Sci-Fi's new "Battlestar Galactica." A lot of the footage looked like it being shot by people standing around with camcorders -- and it was intentional.

Some of it really worked, especially some of the flying scenes, because it looked just like news footage.

I'm generally not a huge fan of the jittery handheld look, but it was a good thing.

Not using the original theme music? NOT a good thing.

Re: Effective use of the handheld look

God I was huge fan of the orginal. Starbuck was the man! I hear he is a she now? WTF is that ****? He was the Han Solo of the show!

No original theme? The theme kicked ass! I knew it was coming on and missed it. I'll catch it when they show it again. Is it cool? BY the way, if it's anything like Star Trek, I'm running for the hills. I hate Star Trek.

Re: Effective use of the handheld look

It's nothing like Star Trek.

I was annoyed by the lack of the theme. There wasn't even an opening credits sequence, just titles played over the action (an *irritating* trend).

I'm going to cut my own, with the new footage and the original theme, because the theme AND the opening credits of the original were some of the best in TV history, and I mean that sincerely.

They redid that famous shot of the G surrounded by all the other ships, and I think they copied it ship-for-ship. It'll be cool to compare the screenshots of the two.

Re: Effective use of the handheld look

I always loved the opening as well. "a RAGTAG fleet". I think that's right. MAn, that was a close as I could get to star wars at the time! NOw SW just plain sucks (the new ones)

Re: Effective use of the handheld look

I had a chance to watch it last night.  I was flipping between Laker game and Battlestar.

It sucked.  I tried to enjoy it, but it just plain sucked.  Can anyone get a sci-fi right?  I second it MADCOW.  It just sucked.  Too bad, really.

Re: Effective use of the handheld look

What's this? There's a remake of Battlestar Galactica? I didn't know that? Is it a series, or a movie? And whats this about Dick not having a dick anymore?

I'm really missing information on this thing.

Re: Effective use of the handheld look

Can't disagree too much. I certainly was hoping for something other than a page-for-page retelling of the original pilot, and one with avant-garde "flawed" characters at that. Was it me, or was everyone pissed off?

Re: Effective use of the handheld look

LOL

I guess I just remember the original all too well. Remember the dog robot thingy? Boxie? Was that the dogs name or the kid? Wasn't it really a chimp? And starbuck was the playa'. Always drinking and smoking cigars. And the brunette was freakin' hot!

I'm not really pissed. Just too bad all the planning and cash that went into a remake and they just didn't get it done. remember the dark mood of the original? Really did look a derelict space ship.

Re: Effective use of the handheld look

LOL

Well, I'm always a little pissed off just by default. So that option doesn't count.

I guess I'm always a little horny. Just can't help that.

I did have some Coronas. Wasn't really drunk in the hammered kind of way; more like a cool buzz.

So, drunk and horny. :)

Re: Effective use of the handheld look

Yeah, well, with the Cylons being replicated humans now, I kept expecting Adama to leave little oragami animals all over the place . . .

Re: Effective use of the handheld look

I liked the updated Cylons (CG) which they had, but all they did was walk in and flank the doors.

Re: Effective use of the handheld look

I didn't see the entire show, was that the ones that looked like Lucas' weird CG troopers?

Re: Effective use of the handheld look

That, and the whole character of Casseopeia was apparently transformed into a Cylon.

Though I guess she was Starbuck's girlfriend, and now that Starbuck is a woman . . .

But then again, hmmm . . . ::)

"Number 6" was Number Six-
NOT Cassiopeia "remolded".
