Effect Help... again.

Seems like this section of the forums has the worst ratio as far as questions vs. answers. Sorry I can't contribute more... hopefully some day.

As for now, I need your help.

I'm going after a background effect, and don't know where to start. Here's what I'm thinking: I'm going to take 20-40 still photos that will almost be aligned (like for stitching together), but not quite perfect, of a room.

Then I want to scale the photos down to create a sort of "floating" background of the image. Think a bunch of square's of pictures floating around to create a semi-realistic, semi-dreamy background. Almost like a puzzle of square's, with a bit of a stop motion effect to them.

If anyone's seen the show "cash cab" on the Discovery Channel, they have an intro that's similar to what I'm after... not exactly though.

The motion I'm after is similar to the movie "waking life", or "a scanner darkly".

Any idea's on how to go about this? Would it be easier to take ONE high rez photo of the room, then chop that up in post? how bout making the individual boxes have a bit of a 3 dimensional drop shadow to them?

Any idea's much appreciated.

Yeah i'd probably start with a bunch of images, then lay them out in z space inside your comp. Then setup a camera, and give it some slight breathing motion side to side and on the z axis. You could also setup your images inside a comp of their own (pre comp perhaps) and add a bit of the wiggler to each layer (image) to give it a random pulse look.

Hope this helps get you started. Be sure to post some clips or stills once you have something going.

Thanks for the replies, and I'm going to do some tests here in the next day or two. The wiggler just way acomplish what I'm after, as far as motion goes, so thanks for that.

I've also just ran across a quick tutorial in Apple Motion, and takes a picture and slices it up, then you do as you wish with it. I just briefly looked over it, but I'll keep this thread going with my progress.

The card dance effect under simulation would work for this as well. There is an old tute on the cow that will show you the basics of how it's done, but you can essentially take one image and break into rows and columns, then use another image to animate rotation and position (as well as z pos) and scale by using the second images intensity, RGBA, Hue and other channels as multipliers...might make things a little easier in conjunction with the aforementioned techniques.

Awesome... yeah, I knew there had to be a way to break up a photo into rows and columns. Could you point me in the right direction of the tutorial?

I know the site, but don't know which one your tlaking about exactly.
