You can export and or imput a spreadsheet that has your edits in it. From the old days of online/offline. You used to have to create the edits offline and write down your decisions and then import them into the online system for final cutting of the film.
Here's a case where you can use it... you're running a deck in the field and logging certain clips and you come up with a rough edit from those shots. Import the EDL into FCP and capture just those clips. Use handles and you've got some wiggle room.
