EDIUS v4.51 and P2 background transfer...

I'm running the 4.51 build of EDIUS (which I'm loving on initial impression) and ran into a potential issue. Wanted to see if other folks could verify this:

When I stick a p2 card into my laptop... go to p2 select... select my clips on the card and choose copy and import everything goes as expected...

The clips are immediately placed in the bin, I have immediate access to them (as before) and the transfer to HDD begins in the background.

The "problem" I'm noticing is whenever I begin to do anything with any of the clips... whether viewing from the bin, or dropping on the timeline, etc... the background transfer of the footage from card to HDD pauses.... which kind of defeats the purpose of a background transfer... Now, I am almost positive this was not the case before this update...

Can anyone else verify this behavior?

Thanks,
Jason

Right-click on the P2 Select icon in the System Tray and uncheck the "Pause while playback with Edius" option -- it's new. The purpose of the option is to maximize throughput for realtime playback if you are using a USB connection.

I discovered it by accident while exploring the new release. P2 Select looked sufficiently different that I decided to explore it more closely than I otherwise would have.

P2 Select was poorly translated (I'd call it Jinglish, not English) so the name of the menu item is a little odd, but it isn't too bad. It's a nice feature, and P2 Select remembers the setting if you shut it down and restart it, so you only need to set it once.

Yeah, I've still noticed some translation weirdness... Thought maybe that would be gone with this release, but I can live with that... So far, my impressions are positive... It fixed a constant quick titler crash whenever EDIUS launched for me, so that was an immediate "alright...".

Haven't really delved into it yet though... Just starting to now...

me too :) Fixed now though, heh... I never used quick titler anyways...

However, I am noticing that title motion pro seems a bit quirky since the update... Might need to do a fresh install of title motion pro...

Hey Jason, or anyone,

This is probably a simply dumb question, but:

I got a new 16gig card, and my HVX is firmware-upgraded, so I can shoot on it, but when I pop the card into Edius Broadcast, it doesn't even see the card.

Do I have to do the firmware upgrade to Edius as well?

Are the Panasonic P2 drivers on that system up-to-date? Edius can't see what the operating system can't see.

Yeah, you'll need to download the updated p2 drivers from panasonic and install them after uninstalling your current drivers. I offloaded a 16 gig card 3 times in EDIUS 4.5 yesterday, so if you have the right drivers, you will be fine...

Later,
Jason

I was just thinking that......if the P2 drivers aren't capable, then the whole foundation is incapable.

Are you editing with the 16gigs with Edius? Any advice? I have the updated info for shooting with the 16's on an SD card, I'm just not sure if that will mesh with the P2 drivers on my laptop with Edius.

I'll look at Panny's website in the meantime.

Just go here and download the p2 drivers. It's not the same thing you used to update your cameras firmware...

https://eww.pavc.panasonic.co.jp/pro-av/support/cs/csregistp2m/ep2main/

You will be looking for the ones that say they are for Vista.... They are the ones. Just confusing they way they name things...

Format your p2 card in camera and be ready to put it in when prompted to do so... It should be the first check box when you run the drivers installer (in the list of different drivers) if I remember correctly.

Once you get the drivers installed for your pcmcia slot, you can go on editing your p2 footage in EDIUS just like you always have.

I'm trying it now..........restarting the computer, then re-running the setup--it keeps saying that it didn't update completely.

Should I also check the box for the HVX as well as the first box? Just in case I need to use the camera to offload?
