EDIUS for Digital Cinema Projection

The video for this is found on another thread. But I thought I would make a new edius thread for this due to the specific technical information it provides.

Yesterday I went to one of the local malls with digital cinema projection to preview the ad I made for digital projection.

I was blown away by the results.

This is digital 3D capable cinema with an 11.5 x 5.5 meter screen(38.5 x 18 ft).

EDIUS output sequential TIFF files to preserve quality then separately output a single 48khz wav file.

This was from a 1080 23.97P timeline. I edited using a SPARK card output to a 32in LCD monitor during the grading process.
Grading was 95 percent done in EDIUS.

I sent the resulting 7 gig file to the digital cinema provider to convert the files into a file compliant for ingest in the projection server.
I was told they are JPEG2000 files. Which particular ones I wasnt told. I still have to check the file in the server.

Heres a link to the video posted in the video's thread;

Heres a pic of the theater to see the size of the screen;

Edius can hold its own against the rest of the pack.

More to the point, is it YOUR projected image on the screen? I've done HD projection from my 5D projects and thought they looked good. I'm kinda sorry I didn't take any pics of the screen at the premier.

Yup, thats my projected image on the screen. Its kinda blown cuz it very dark and I put the 7D, which I used to shoot that still, on auto iso. It was taken with a tripod.

Correction; the projected image is not strictly a still but a frame grab from a 7D video.

Gotta love the person checking their watch ;)

haha! that pic is actually 2 images from the 7D on a tripod, i fired one still with flash so we can see the size and look of the theater BEFORE the screening, then rolled video mode to capture the playing material,
which by then would render everything dark except the screen. Just sandwiched the two to show both scenarios in one image. :cheesy:

Nice. Curious how they calibrate those projectors. Was the image what you expected? (ie did it match your monitor?)

As to your question if it matched my monitor, yes it did. I edit on a 32 inch lcd and test it on our own lcd projector so we pretty much got close to actual projection. To be honest, the image was a bit more than I expected. Similar to the image produced from our JVC+35 adapter combo, in which another ad I made was also screening at that same theater.
