Edius books?

OK, so there is the "Complete Training for Edius 4.5" DVD, which seems like it may be decent, but what about any books. I was totally surprised that after an hour or so of googling I can not find ONE book on Edius 4.5 or 5 (the version I have).

Have my googling skills really dropped or is there really no books on Edius?

The lack of written training aids is really making me think of going back to AVID.

A little rough on the indepenent editors like myself. It was easy to find books for learning AVID (or pretty much any other NLE).

Yes, this is one area that GV is lacking. I do know that they have a whole new training program in place and will jet take a bit of time to get implemented.

FWIW the help file in Edius is really a pdf of the manual.

Is it simply a case that Edius has relatively low number of copies sold compared to big players like AVID or ADOBE. So there is no business in elearnig or writing books? That is a bity because there really is need for learning stuff. Looking at Adobe's material in web for examble ( commercial and free), it's suberb to anyone.

Actually (I use EDUS and have also AVID 3.5, which I have desided to sell) I am turning towards thinking where integration like Adobe collections is the overall winning compination. Pure filmmakers are of course a different group, but mediaprodusers who work with fotos and graphics besides video and use different outcomes to deliver their work, they are going towards Adobe-like integration. Myself at least.

I have Edius, FCP, Avid Media Composer, and Premiere Pro (CS4 Suite). We now use Edius for at least 95% or our work. That along with After Effects and Photoshop pretty much takes care of things. After using Edius a lot, PPro feels pretty clunky and slow.

It sounds like you should also go over to the Edius user forum on the Grass Valley site a regular basis. Their is a wealth of information being passed around by users and Grass Valley employees. That is the place to be for continued learning. I highly suggest you make it a daily ritual. That is what I do.

Hi, you can check on www.edius-books.com. There are now 2 tutorial books for EDIUS and Neo available online. The first one apparently explains the software from A to Z. The second is called "Tips & Tricks for EDIUS 5.x & Neo"... for more advanced users I guess.

Class On Demand has a very extensive training DVD. It's done by Mike Downey, Edius demo guy extraordinaire.

For $99.95 it's a great choice. Even though it's for version 4.5, it's the same interface as 5. Worth every penny.

I have been looking for E5 tutorials everywhere, and happily discovered a recently released set of excellent Edius 5 comprehensive tutorials (60 topics) at:

http://www.macprovideo.com/tutorial/ediuspro101

Half the price and very well done. Covers basics to advanced features, full of editing shortcuts and tips. The author, Sean Sullivan, is a very experienced, award winning Editor who has taught Premiere, and has edited on a number of NLE's, including Avid and Vegas among others according to the bio. The focus is professional and always to the point.

By the way, the 'mac' in the site title does not indicate any affiliation with Apple--they make both PC and Mac tutorials, and other stuff as well.

I'm moving a lot of my pro work on Premier and Avid to Edius because of the speed advantage (and other features) and have already cut hours off the learning curve with these tutorials. Time is money for me. Edius 5 does have an excellent manual, but I find getting the overall grasp of and feel for E5's power and the jobs its suited for is both quicker and easier through video tutorials than books or manuals for the most part.

Well worth $49, for sure.
