Edius and the HVX in 24pn

I will be shooting a music video soon with a Panasonic P2/HVX 200 camera using the 720p/24native fps format setting on the camera. I want to find out the best setting when creating a new project in Edius to edit this in. I noticed that you cannot change the project settings from HD 720 24p to NTSC SD at over 60i (or 29.97fps) in edius . I want to end up with a HD 720 version (shot in 24p) and also output a 480i SD version at 29.97fps. The only way I know would be to export to file the final finished project and then open a new project at NTSC 29.97fps setting. Am I right?

Thanks for any help.

The setting you would choose for a new project would be:
Generic OHCI HD 24Hz for output device.
Output format would be DVCPRO HD 720/23.98 over 59.94p (This is the setting for 720p at 24pn).

Then, edit your project.

Then when you want to output, you can output (print to file...) one file as a 1280x720 23.98fps avi (or whatever), and then output another file that is 720x480 16:9 29.97 with 3:2 pulldown, Mpeg 2, for example.

Edit in HD, then output to your final formats... i.e. HD avi, SD DVD, the Web...whatever.

Does that answer your question?

Hi thanks, Yeah I now see my mistake. I created the new project with output settings of: 720/24p over 60p. I should have created it at: 720/23.98p over 59.94p. With this option it allowed me to edit the project and then change the output settings to: DV 23.98p over 59.94i. for a SD version as well. Cool.

Hey,
If I'm understanding you properly... you *shouldn't* have to change the project setttings just to output to an SD final... You can stay in the 720 project setting the whole time... Then just print to file whatever final deliveries you want.... DVD, HD, whatever....

Yeah, choosing pure 24p will probably make your footage a bit stuttery... Stick with 23.98.
