Edius 4.51

I just searched for the name of the file I downloaded yesterday using FileMirrors, and it found a copy:

FileMirrors results

I don't know if the mirror will work, but it is worth a shot.

There has been some discussion of this link on the official Canopus forums, and I want to clarify something in case anyone is concerned about downloading the file from an unauthorized source: the download link shown by FileMirrors is that of the official, legitimate copy of the Edius V4.51 update.

Canopus/Grass Valley has the file hosted on Limewire Networks' high-speed content distribution network. When you log in to the Canopus website and select the V4.51 update to download (which you can't at the moment because of website problems), you are downloading it from Limewire.

The link I provided allows you to bypass logging into the Canopus site and gets you the exact same file I downloaded yesterday morning.

I'm trying to get the file off FileMirrors results but it's coming up with a 400 error saying 'bad request'. Any ideas THoff?

I don't know what happened, but you are right, the download from the mirror doesn't work anymore.

It worked this morning (I started and then aborted the download to confirm this before I posted), and there are other people on the official Canopus forum that downloaded V4.51 from there.

Hopefully Canopus can fix this soon.

after reading the latest announcement from GV on the edius forum it seems as if there will be an update to 4.51 to fix some glitches as I read it tho it will be an update only to 4.51 not a "full install" if that is the right term, so my question is if I never got 4.51 how will i be able to upgrade it? also for those of you lucky enough to have gotten the 4.51 version I would like to know what you think about it, currently I am running 3.64 and its my rock, got the workflow with the p2 down and its as stable as can be, I have a registered 4.xx but never installed it because of unstability issues I have read about on the forums, does 4.51 live up to the hype? please give me your impressions of it so far. i am running a pc edius turnkey system with an NX board and hdv upgrade.

4.51 is a great improvement all in all. I am having a few issues with real time (minor for the most part), but I think that is more related to something on my end, and I have (for the most part) gotten them taken care of. I have noticed a complete loss of realtime with title motion pro, but I think that the patch is supposed to address some issues with title motion pro, so...

But, yeah... it's great. All of the bugs that I had noticed with prior 4.xx versions are gone with 4.51. I haven't come across any old bugs. It's a very stable build (for the most part), with some great new features as well.

But, you would need to download the 4.51 update first, then the patch whenever it is released.

You can download the 4.51 update (when it is available again) and install it as a fresh install. You don't need to have a prior version of EDIUS installed. Just have your dongle inserted and use your 4.xx serial numbers. I did it. It works fine that way.

Also, 4.1x and beyond (I think) added some nice improvements to the p2 workflow that you should really take advantage of. One being (if you are using a pcmcia slot) background transfers. Stick the card in your slot, choose the clips and the location on your HDD to transfer to and click copy and import. The clips are immediately available for editing your bin. EDIUS will work off of the card until the HDD transfer is complete and then automatically re-link to the HDD location. I love that feature.

I can start working on footage within seconds, or scrub the footage as it is offloading, etc.

Hope that helps a bit.

The V4.5x file that is going on the Canopus server (when it comes back) will include fixes for reported Titlemotion Pro problems. I'm not sure if they'll still call it V4.51 or call it V4.52 to avoid confusion.

For those who already have V4.51, there will be a patch to bring it up to date.

The Canopus server issues are fixed and the updated version of V4.51 is available now, which is labelled as V4.51c. It is not a full installer, you need an existing V4.xx installation on your system (including the V4.51 that was up for a day) to install V4.51c.

As far as Vista is concerned, Edius still does not officially support it, although I know that some folks are using it successfully on Vista. The problem as I understand it is that some of the components that are part of Edius aren't compatible -- Procoder Express for Edius is apparently one of them.

The next major release should be Vista-compatible, and Canopus/Grass Valley is selling a product in Japan called Edius Neo that is fully Vista compatible, so they are definitely working on remedying this.

My personal opinion is that anyone who does any serious work with video should stay away from Vista for the time being, regardless of what NLE and other tools they use. Vista -- at the very least -- needs to run with the Aero interface disabled so that the hardware video overlay is available, too many programs rely on that.
