Help! I have to start digitizing some footage shot with Panasonic dvx100 in standard 30p mode.
Here is what I've got:
G4 powermac 733 mhz with 640 ram
FCP 4.5 HD

My questions:
do I have to rent a dvx100 again to playback the footage and digitize it
do I need a special video card
what are the video settings to get startes with fcp

If my system doesn't meet the minimum requirements, can I just capture and work offline?
With what settings?
Will that mess the frame rate?

As you probably figured, I'm totally confused about this. Help!
My producer is freaking out.

Re: editor's troubles

You can capture the footage using any miniDV deck, so you're ok. The DVX writes it's data to the tape as standard 29.97 footage.

Re: editor's troubles

Will I loos the special high definition this way?

Re: editor's troubles

You won't loos anything. What you put on tape will be there still. Though I'm not sure what you really mean by high definition... do you mean the P in 30P?? Nope, you'll still get frame for frame pictures and not interlaced 60.

Good luck,

Re: editor's troubles

Definition is the same. You've recorded video at standard resolution in a digital form so it will be input to
you computer at the same full quality even when played back from a cheaper camera as long as you use the firewire connection. No special video card required (or recommended in this case)
Connect a camera/deck to your computer with firewire, turn it on VCR mode and setup prefs on FCP to deal with NTSC DV 30p images.
