Editing Woes (2 part epic)

PART 1:

OK. I'm going to be as thorough as I can because I won't have access to the computer I'm editing on until Wednesday.

I shot a whole bunch of stuff with the original DVX100 in 4:3 mode in 24pA directly to my friend's Macbook Pro.

My friend removed pulldown from all the clips in FCP afterwards. They look sharp and nice.

My friend puts all the sound and footage (recorded seperately) on a harddrive. I copy that over to the computer I'm editing on. I import the files to a new project to begin editing.

Apparently, my friend has a newer version of FCP, so we didn't have any problems. When I imported onto the FCP on my editing computer I got a lot of messages saying error this and error that and that some of the files were unusable, yet all are there and all are usable.

Also, my footage looks like crap again, but it won't let me do pulldown removal in FCP so I'm assuming once pulldown is removed, it's removed for good? Maybe it's just the preview window? But everything that look smooth before now looks jagged.

Sorry if this all sounds confusing, I can't give you the exact error messages until Wed but I figured anyone who has experienced weird issues with older FCP can help.

PART 2

Also, what should my project settings be to run smoothly? I know if I capture from tape it should be 29.97 but shouldn't the project be 23.98 (or whatever it is) since I shot in 24pA? What codec should I edit with?

Also, I shot in color but plan on draining it to BW. Best method and precautions for this?
